International Captain
Awesome stuff from Deccan here. Three wins from three games and they are clearly the team to beat in this IPL.
Forgive me if I'm wrong Sanz, but I thought you were from Kolkata originally.Bring on the the Chennai SuperKing and I hope they give these No-kolkata Kite-Riders a maulings of their lives.
IPL should have skipped that venue - Cape Town has a dodgy climate and has affected the success of the tournament. Why schedule matches there at this time of the year?Wet wet wet...rain in Cape Town since six...
Whom should Mills replace? What is the news on Kyle Mills? He should have been playing, since he's a crafty medium-pacer and can clout a few from low down the order. His form wasn't good in the lead-up to this event, but he played his latest limited-overs match long before the IPL began.
Whom should Mills replace?
1. Jayasuriya and Duminy appear to be amongst the kep players with the bat
2. Bravo is the all-rounder
3. Malinga wins hands down as the specialist quick bowler!
What sort of totals are you expecting? The option of getting in Rahane and Mills for Duminy and Dhawal should be explored, with Bravo coming up to three.
- Sanath can't be relied on to bowl four overs consistently.
- Dhawal Kulkarni and Rohan Raje shouldn't be in the XI- they're that inadequate.
- The Mumbai bowling was weak enough to hand a few extra runs which made the difference- notably, Sanath and Dhawal gave away 47 runs in four overs.
- The batting wasn't up to the task here.
Well when you have Roberts, Holding, Marshall, Garner and Dhawal Kulkarni it's pretty obvious where the runs are coming from. What sort of totals are you expecting?
Ist inning totals at Durban
1. K11 - 158 [lost]
2. DD - 189 [won]
3. BRC - 168 [lost]
4. DC - 168 [won]
this was the first time when a team that scored less than 170 won! And there will always be some bowlers who would go for more runs. that's how the game goes even if you have Roberts, Holding, Marshall and Garnar bowling!
If top bowlers of any team will go for runs, there's no reason to have half-baked or non-regular bowlers in the scene. Dhawal Kulkarni looked woeful in that over, and even Sanath went for too many. In fact, this may have affected his batting in the match. Any top bowler may have a bad day, but if T20 is harsh on bowlers, it is extremely harsh on part-time and filler bowlers, as has been seen so often. What sort of totals are you expecting?

it's already been identified where runs came from!Well when you have Roberts, Holding, Marshall, Garner and Dhawal Kulkarni it's pretty obvious where the runs are coming from.
But isn't that the case for most teams? DC had Harmeet and part-timers bowling, didn't they? And if you see the four top bowlers in the side are Malinga, Zak, Bhajji and Bravo. Kulkarni and Jayasuriya combine as 5th bowlers. How are you going to solve the 5th bowler problem? By replacing one of the top 4 batsmen with a specialist bowler to maintain the 4 overseas players balance, who too is likely to go for runs! That optio doesn't make much sense to me. Yeah Kulkani can be replaced if MI have better Indian bowling option in their squadIf top bowlers of any team will go for runs, there's no reason to have half-baked or non-regular bowlers in the scene. DC got loads of runs from Sanath and Dhawal (economy of eleven, one wicket), while the others did fine (average economy of seven, total seven wickets). Moreover, we don't know if Sanath can take that load- they need runs more than wickets. JP may be a good batsman, but he wasn't up to the task of covering up for the massive bowling inadequacy- Gilchrist, Gibbs and (in other matches) Sharma, however, did just that. Besides, MI still have Sanath, Sachin, Bravo, Nayar and Dhawan isn't too far behind. Rahane is a good batting option, and with superlative performances season after season in FC matches, he shouldn't be left out. Kyle Mills, for all the trouble, is a full-fledged strike bowler who has done well for New Zealand on countless occasions, and is way ahead of the Kulkarni/Sanath/Raje combination. As for an Indian bowling option, there's Rahil Sheikh, but it's too big a risk. But isn't that the case for most teams? DC had Harmeet and part-timers bowling, didn't they?
