Bleh. He's said this already... after the Bangalore test vs Australia iirc. Atleast he knows his actual level unlike most of his fans

Ah well, I am as big a fan of Virat as anyone and I still think he will be our best test batsman when its all said and done. But as an Indian fan, I will be bloody freakin' happy if someone of Virat's calibre is our THIRD best batsman in the test XI.

I said it before, the ideal cordon would be, assuming we are playing our best XI...

Fast bowlers - Slips - Vijay, Rahul, Ashwin (in that order), Gully - Rahane, short leg - Pujara.

Spinners - Slip - Rahane, Gully/Leg slip - Pujara, Short leg - Rahul, Silly Point - Vijay.

Kohli can move into leg slip in case we need both the gully and the leg slip. Its the one time where him trying to anticipate and move with the shot "might" be useful. And when we have only 3 guys catching for the spinners, move Pujara or Vijay out of the cordon.

Jadeja suspended for the final test for an accumulation of demerit points.Suppose India won't mind too much, gives them a chance to give Kuldeep a bit more experience and it's a dead rubber.

Seems he threw the ball dangerously towards a batsman. I find it funny how the Aussies do it all the time and I never heard any demerit points given their way. But if he did that, he gotta cop it. Fair's fair. So we get Kuldeep in for Jaddu next test and maybe Bhuvi/Ishant in for Umesh, who has been playing non stop and will be needed during the ODIs?

Well, atleast it seems they're not going easy on players from the big 3. He had it coming... had a bunch of points already for running on the pitch.

Australia has barely played since the demerit point system came in.

But you'd think Mitch Starc in particular would want to take special note of this.

I always find it strange how bowlers has to fire the ball back at the batsman when it's hit straight into their hands. Almost that they've been insulted or something. Have seen multiple bowlers doing it, and fast bowlers especially. The ban is justified imo. Will put a stop to all the shits that think they can get a run out at the distance. I am pretty convinced that it's not about the run out as well, it's just the bowlers showing their frustration under that disguise.

When did it come in? I thought it was there since last year and Australia played a bunch of tests in that time, didn't they?

I recall McGrath acting as if he was gonna throw the ball at Sachin when he hit a straight drive that he managed to field off his own bowling. Sachin responded by indicating he will hook that away for 6 as well. Think it may have been that famous 2000 ICC Champions Trophy match in Kenya.

What exactly will stop a batsman from just hitting the ball to the boundary when they throw that at him needlessly. FWIW, even fielders tend to do that from time to time. Not just the bowlers. Even in the home series, Root did the exact same thing at Rahul. Wonder why no demerit points were given then, unless they came into existence only this calendar year or something.

Reckon that is ICC making sure they ban an Indian to head off any accusations of impropriety. Looks pretty innocuous to me but if he had demerit points it's hard to feel sympathy.

Indian doesn't get banned - Biased ICC.
Indian gets banned - Biased ICC pretending to be unbiased.

Wrong umpire decision in favor of India - Umpires bought by India.
Wrong umpire decision against India - India forgot to buy umpires.

Player plays well against India - **** team.
Player doesn't play well against India - Trying for an IPL contract.

meh.

Probably for the same reason "hit the ball twice" is still a legit mode of dismissal. Having the batsman hit aggressive strokes when fielders aren't really expecting it is a sure way for someone to get seriously hurt.

Maybe they ought to outlaw Jadeja's ridiculous landmark celebration also...the bat might slip out and hit someone inadvertently.

Perhaps not so inadvertent, after all. Jadeja does seem the shady kind. Hmmm.

Yeah, that's just ridiculous "logic".

They probably should have sentenced him to a hundred lashes for good measure, to properly prove their unbiased-ness. 8-)
