Damn, GT and DC are flexin' and then some.

Two sides that almost no one gave any hopes after their auction as well, including me, most probably.

Not the first this has happened with GT. Their first season some of the "experts" were outright mocking how weak their team was. They eventually went on to win the tournament.

Whatever it takes!!!
I am almost convinced Cummins has absolutely no interest in the IPL and the only thing he wants to ensure is that Head does not field and get himself injured, for 2 seasons now.

I cannot believe the idiots at SRH thought he was captaincy material.

He's been hit and miss over the years in the IPL, but he does deserve credit for leading them to the final and they were absolute box office in 2024.

Its not the worst side on paper, but they have been very poor this season sadly.

I dont think he does any real leading or captaincy as such. It just feels like they have a plan A and then nothing else. And Cummins is happy to just go out there and lead on instinct but not think or worry too much about this.

And I get that. He sees this as a way to make money for himself and is more devoted to captaining Australia and wants to take it easy here while giving his best there. Its understandable and honestly, if I were an Indian player and had the chance to dupe an Aussie franchise for his kind of money, I would do the same thing.

The owners are the idiots here who cant see this basic fact. Find an Indian player who is wiling to be captain, maybe Ishy Kishy, and then build a side around them. That is the ideal way for any IPL franchise IMO. Foreign coach plus local captain has usually been the winning formula.

I just think Cummins isn't a very good t20 bowler. He's never been great for an extended period in t20 cricket and he's often been at a point with Australian fans where ellis has been prefered. His best year in the ipl was probably 15 wickets @25 in 2017, which is decent but not 10+ crore worthy. Indian seamers get less with higher expectations.

Oh I am not even talking about his performances. Just his captaincy and general attitude around IPL. Like I said, I get it. Its just stupid the owners have not seen it yet when its this obvious for 2 years in a row now.

Ponting, for example, pretty much uses this as a way to elevate or gain more experience and exposure for Aussie players. But it is obvious he is doing that in the interest of winning games for his franchise, he just happens to believe in players he knows well and most of the players he knows well happen to be aussies. Cummins is just different, lol.

EDIT - I mean, I can even see how that sense of detachment and lack of desperation can even be a good thing for a captain of an IPL team but to me, it will always take captains who want to win the trophy and prioritize that to win any IPL and Cummins ain't that, right now.

On Vaibhav Suryavanshi's age debate -

Crapinfo Ask Steven said:
Is Vaibhav Suryavanshi the youngest player to appear in the IPL? asked Mehmet Ahmet from India
Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his IPL debut last week for Rajasthan Royals against Lucknow Super Giants in Jaipur. And he made an explosive start: he drove his first ball, from the Test seamer Shardul Thakur, for six. In the next over, bowled by another Indian international, Avesh Khan, he lofted another six from the third ball he faced.

If his published birth date (March 27, 2011) is correct, Suryavanshi would easily be the youngest IPL player so far, at 14 years 23 days. However, in an interview in 2023, he said he'd be celebrating his 14th birthday on September 27, 2023, which would make him 18 months older. That would still give him the record: the previous youngest IPL player was Prayas Ray Barman, who was 16 years 157 days old when he appeared for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Sunrisers in Hyderabad in 2019. Ray Barman's debut was rather less stellar: his four overs cost 56, then he was out for 19 - and he hasn't played in the IPL again.

As I said he definitely looks more 16 than 14. Still bloody impressive to be this good at 16, mind you.

Fence-sitting aside, Roller makes some good points there in that article, especially about BCCI not looking to kill international cricket for the sake of IPL. Such simple facts that so many even in this forum cannot see.
Haven't read the article, but if the IPL tried to kill international cricket it would be shooting itself in the foot.

International cricket creates cricketing stars and these stars are a big reason many watch the IPL.

You could probably count on one hand the number of stars the IPL has created.

You wouldn't think a team including Head, Abhishek and Klaasen would be so abysmal with the bat, but that is seemingly where SRH are.

Who was the actual best batsman of 2016 IPL?
Virat Kohli or ABD?

Tho I don't agree with whatever this ridiculous list is

AB was better than Kohli in 2016, IMO.

AB pretty much allowed Kohli to do the job he does best: Anchor and then slog in the end overs. Kohli struck at 131 in the first 12 overs, and faced an average of 30 balls. It was AB who had to do the heavy lifting till the point Kohli finally accelerated.

Not to mention, Kohli scoring a slow rate costed them a few games early on.

BTW I believe Warner was the best batter of 2016, neither Kohli nor AB
