There has been some extraordinarily poor cricket last few overs. Great to watch though. I am as big a critique of Smith as a T20 player as anyone, but not his fault here. Whilst he should have taken them home he also anchored innings in a lowish chase
This wasn't a pitch to 'anchor' on, because new batsmen struggled to score throughout. It was a pitch for set batsmen to score significantly faster than 100+ to make up for the 3 off 8 etc. type innings.

Feel for Smith. He will be distraught. What a great effort but not many from his team were able to support him. Shocking final.

Whilst I agree that it's not as bad an innings as could be assumed if looked at as 51 (50) without other context, it was a bad innings imo.

I think the time we've all spent watching other formats of cricket means that a 50 will always feel like a good innings in some way, even if it's actually the opposite.
The problem was that he also started reaaalllly slowly. Rahane, while his SR wasn't far higher, atleast he scored steadily. Smith was 21(33) at one stage which caused the required RR to just shoot up. Put way too much pressure on the team.

Dhoni was crap too... guy has lost that finishing touch completely.

Smith needed to go the Krunal way, go run a ball till 30ish balls and then go faster. Instead he meandered around for the first 35 balls and ended up at run a ball. Rahane followed a better template than Smith but got out.

It was a very bad chase to say the least. They left far too much left to do in the final overs with so many wickets in hand. Even if someone had gone for a quickfire 20, they'd have got home. Bad innings from Smith particularly because he didn't go after the bowlers after Rahane got out. He and Dhoni kept scratching around and hence the RR got away from them.

Some really solid bowling though. All in all it was a pretty great match to watch. Very exciting.

RPS always knew they were one batsman short. That's the reason they didn't go for it earlier. I could understand their thinking. They only had 6 batsmen, and they didn't want to expose their no. 7 in 18th over or so.

They wanted to finish the job with 6 batsmen. And their plan was going alright. They only came short by one run - I won't criticise the strategy.

Good to see a close final, even if it was kind of a weird game. Enjoyed this IPL overall, but it is too ****ing long.

I'll always prefer the more time-zone-friendly BBL.

tbf dhoni was ass but you can't say he's lost the finishing touch completely considering he gave a couple finishing touch ups this season

sure he's not as dependable as he used to be but he hasn't lost it completely

Saw the highlights last night. Looked a crazy game of cricket. Reckon he needed no more than a metre either side of where he hit the last ball to get the win. He absolutely smoked it. Couldn't have picked out the bloke better if he'd tried.
