It certainly was an interesting opening round of the IPL this weekend. Was my first time watching it, and I think my disdain for the Twenty20 format is slowly disappearing.

Always thought Kerala was one of the last bastions in India where football and athletics were more popular than cricket. Seems like that has too fallen.

The Crowd is absolutely brilliant there.

And the best part is they are fanatically supporting there team too.
They all launched a campaign to get their team name changed too and got it changed from Indiicommandos to tusckers,and succeeded.

Probably because its a very big stadium. I remember it being the second biggest stadium in India after Eden gardens in terms of capacity one time.

Raiphi Gomez seems like some cricketer, probably the worst bowler I have ever seen. de Villiers was never going to choke as its the IPL and no one really gives a **** but wow what an over. Don't think Mahela will be giving him the ball again anytime soon.

Only caught a few matches but the standard was pretty appalling. A lot of the WC guys look shot or just going through the motions while some of the other overseas guys are just ordinary nothing cricketers. Though good to see Warney still doing the business at 41. Legend.

Probably the only decent player currently in the Kerala state cricket team in Ranji Trophy. It is impossible for the Kochi team to find decent local players from the state team with the kind of resources they have unlike some other teams who have good domestic local players.

I haven't seen Sony play. But Sreekumaran Nair, yes probably a fair call. But, i don't know if he is miles better. Raiphi is pretty young and promising in the list of average to mediocre cricketers whom Kerala has produced. Only played a handful of matches compared to S Nair who has been around for a long time.
