Would drop Shankar, but don't see it actually happening.
Yeah Shastri-Kohli combine has too much ego to admit their boy came off on a fluke. They will continue playing him until Dhawan becomes fit and even then they might drop Jadhav to accommodate Shankar.

I wish there was some way to accommodate Jaddu. Absolute livewire on the field, but not as good as KulCha as a wicket-taking option. Decent lower order bat. Love the guy.

Guess he'll just have to sub in as a fielder as someone conveniently gets "injured" throughout the tournament. :p

Really don't mind them drafting in Jadeja against Afghanistan. In fact, draft in DK as well.

BTW, we are really blessed to have 2 quality wrist spinners. Wrist spinners can turn the game with middle over wickets but can also have off days and get hit for sixes (see Zampa against India who didn't finish his spell). If you have 2 of them you increase the chances of getting middle over wickets significantly.
I'm so confused by this post. What a rollercoaster.

??

All I am saying that having 2 quality wrist spin bowlers helps because if one fails (which happens often enough) there is a chance other will still come good. Middle over wickets are so important and KulCha have made a big difference.

I'll just replace Bhuvi with shami and make no other changes, Kuldeep hasn't brought it in the internationals till now but he is not a mug with the bat.

India haven't really lost wickets in the middle overs - great performance till now, my only criticism would be that we should accelerate a bit more during the 30-40 overs.

Dhawan's out of the WC. :( :( :(

Massive blow. We were already too reliant on the top 3 as it is. Hopefully pant doesn't bat like a maniac.

I think we'll be okay without Dhawan. We've only got two big Group Stage games left and then the KO stage, and I think at this point we can trust the likes of Rohit, Kohli, Bumrah, Dhoni and Hardik to really raise their game when it matters.

The soft-middle order was always a concern, and maybe now they'll get more time in the middle to get them ready for the KO games.

That's a bad blow. Dhawan's a beast for us in ICC events. Hopefully it will be the making of Rahul.

Chances of Pant and Shankar delivering are remote. DK's less remote but they probably won't pick him anyway.

Nah, it's too much pressure on the top 3. It's not gonna work. SF exit.

Yeah losing Dhawan is obviously a huge blow. The semi-final spot is probably not in danger but the big question has always been whether this batting lineup could chase 300+ in a knockout game. They couldn't do it in the semi four years back and they couldn't do it against Pakistan in the Champion's final. Without Dhawan's I think India's chances of pulling off a big chase are substantially lower especially because I am still not convinced that 2019 Dhoni can deliver when the pressure is really on. I suppose the bowling is good enough that one can hope that the high-pressure chase never happens but I wouldn't bet too much on it given the pitches and likely opposition.

Dhawan is a big loss given his basically a god in ICC events. Honestly Jadhav has to be replaced by Pant, I know its harsh but I can't see Jadhav performing in a KO game, more than happy to eat my words if he does but eh.. Pant and Pandya could really provide the X-factor especially with the kind of totals we might see from ENG/AUS.

Rohit Rahul Kohli Dhoni Jadhav Pant Pandya

Looks a decent line-up. Good cake in the top 4 and then we have Jadhav who is a cake-icing mix. And then the lovely icing of Pant and Pandya. I hope they go with this order.

This is what I will go with but I don't think Dhoni likes to bat at 4 at all.

From what I've seen of Pant, he's not a player like Maxwell at all, to start the demolition job from the first ball. If I had to have him in the team I'd play him at 5. He needs some balls to get himself set and then go berserk. Considering that he's done **** all in ODIs or LAs, why he should be preferred over someone like DK is another question.
