I like how the commentators were saying Mitchell has had a dream debut. He scored 8 off 6 and took the wicket of a number 11. Hahahahaha.

Incredible hyperbole but to be fair I liked how he looked. Strikes me as a thinking cricketer. Hits his second ball for four because he works out what the bowler is going to do and has the ability to make good on it. From what I've seen hes a very clean hitter and his bowling is also clever, hits hole (why do few people STILL not do it) and mixes up pace well. I reckon he's got a future

Yes, I was slightly nervous when Mitchell was brought on to bowl but he did very well, varying his pace. Will be interesting to see if he can maintain that through the series.

Also, how good would it have been to have Seifert opening in the ODI's? Just one innings, but he obviously had a high ceiling.

Maybe he's more suited to opening than down the order, but this was the first thing he's ever done in the Black clothing to justify his selection.

Keeps the gloves away from him though, or give him intensive training with some ATGs like Healy or Gilchrist or someone, asap.

His List A record is also absolutely despicable. I've always rated him highly but it'd be a bit of a joke for him to actually be selected as a specialist batsman in anything resembling a first choice ODI side before he demonstrated some aptitude for it, or at least showed some better strike-rotation skills in the other formats. I've got no dramas with him in the squad as a sort of multi purpose backup batsman and backup keeper - you can take more punts when you're trying to turn 17 into 15 IMO - but I'm much happier with the Nicholls experiment as first choice post-Munro.

Yeah, iirc he was opening for ND when he scored the fastest Super Smash hundred. Very McCullum-like in that innings with the clean timing and fast hands.

I would still have Latham as keeper. Parore seems like another person who could help with keeping technique.
