***Official*** India in Sri Lanka

Muralitharan snares Gambhir and claims the world record. Finally!

Anyway, all doubts may be put to rest now. Gambhir is now India's best ODI opener, with this score over 150.

Well done Murali. Proper champ.

But damn how good is Gambhir? Getting better by the day.

India finish at 332 for five. Again, the top six (not counting lower-order striker Yusuf) lasts 50 overs. You have to feel for Raina, who missed a rapid 50 without getting out and Sharma, who missed his chance of getting an innings.

Congrats Murali!!! An amazing cricketer and a wonderful guy, from all accounts.. Totally deserves it. Has been phenomenal in all forms of the game.

And good total by India. But Sri Lanka are capable of getting there. They juz need Sanath to fire and the rest of the top 4 to bat as well as they did the other night..

India did exceptionally well. And the 50% of match is yet to go.
Yeah as I said previously- I certainly don't mean to take anything away from India, they've batted brilliantly. But it's made a difficult chase for SL into an all but impossible one.

They'd probably win this one anyway, but it still pisses me off when winning the toss gives one team a fourfold advantage over the other.

That might be true. However Sri Lanka has not been anywhere near India's standards so far to assume toss would have changed anything based on the forms so far.

That's not really relevant, but ftr i think they would have won the second ODI if both teams were batting under the same conditions.

Shocking.

It doesn't matter though. We'll never know who would have won a real cricket match between the two teams. Since 2000, 35 day-nighters in Colombo have brought about a result. 27 were won by the team winning the toss and batting first. So you're four times as likely to win if you win the toss. That's not a contest. And you know, I'd say the exact same thing if Sri Lanka won the match after winning the toss. It simply can't be taken seriously.

IK Pathan, what a champion, genuine seam bowler, keeps it tight, and takes big wickets. The guy has awesome control of his bowling and if he keeps up his economy of 11, then Sri Lanka will win deservingly.

Interesting that the other 07 WC finalist has been just as crap at home in recent times as us. Not to take anything away from India though, I think they're one out and out 'shock' fast bowler away from having the perfect side.

Good to see Irfan mixing it up. He's taken a lot of risks, got the batsmen to play, and even bowled a few effective bouncers. He'll have to be a hero tonight, given the Indians' weak bowling beyond the top four. He's got the pace back, and he's also bowling smartly. Far better than that tearaway known as Dilhara Fernando.

About time we realize Irfan is not going to be a new ball bowler in ODIs for us...

His natural length is too full for that. He can get us wickets on his day but it is too much of a risk. Ideally speaking, Praveen and Zak should be our main bowlers and Irfan, if he plays, should be our first or second change guy.. He seemed to be developing into a good middle overs bowler for ODs but again we are messing him up asking him to open the bowling. Let's leave it for the others... And he is still capable of picking up wickets for us in the middle overs plus keeping it tight.
