Seriously though. How awesome has Virat been in run chases? Definitely backing him in a KO match come the world cup than any other player.

Averages more than double batting 2nd than he does batting first.

30 vs 62.

Would still back Gambhir over him though in a tight match.

Backing him ahead of Sachin? Sure thing.
Sachin's up there as well but in a run chase this guy just gives you that feeling he will come through. An X-factor if you will. He's done it in the past as well so not totally baseless either.

Pathan on, get the pace bowlers back into it.
Pretty much and that's why I think Kohli is the better option for the ODI team. It's very likely we will face quality pace bowlers in semi and final of the WC and there isn't much reason to believe Pathan will be able to do much against them. Raina and Dhoni are capable of bashing the spinners anyway and Kohli isn't looking half-bad against them in this game.

In India it is a different kettle of fish altogether and no use of Kolhi ,Dhoni or Raina at 7.

Plus in India Pathan can be a useful bowler too.

Pathan hasn't done much against quality teams in the sub-continent either. Kohli would probably bat at 4 and I would much rather have Dhoni or Raina at 7 than Pathan. Raina contributes with the ball too and is a good fielder.

Raina will be wasted at 7 though ,and so will Dhoni too.

And Pathan has played some quick crucial innings in India.

May not reflect on his average ,but in those conditions he can make a difference.

Besides in ODI's Newzealand is a good side too.

Yuvraj is the first in queue to get dropped from this lineup for Pathan, AFAIC. Surely Kohli has cemented his spot in the XI. He is also a superb fielder. Sure, the part-timers have bowled well in tandem recently, but dropping Kohli to accommodate Yuvraj, Raina and Pathan (for their part-time spin) is not on, for me. Besides, hopefully Sehwag will also be able to bowl a bit by then.

At#7 Pathan>Raina
As a bowler Pathan>Raina
Against short ball anyone>Raina
Against spinners Pathan>Raina
Against pacers Pathan = Raina
At home Pathan>Raina
Player's form, Pathan>Raina

Come on. NZ lost four games to BD before coming to India. They are definitely not a good ODI side.
In ODI's the gap between the teams is less.

Besides he has done well in whatever little oppurtunities he has got in India to bat after the top and middle order which have not been many in the matches he has played.

No point playing Raina or Dhoni in that role because they won't get the oppurtunity to show what they can do and as a hitter only Yusuf is better.

Besides in any case we need another player who can hit big shots from early on in the innings in the top 4 besides sehwag to gain momentum at crucial junctures.

About Yusuf, it's harsh to say NZ should not count as a success for him just because they are weak... they would have won that match with ease if it were not for him FFS. It was a quality knock. Atleast he has guided India to two successful chases recently.
