SA's attack is really not better when you look at Tsotsobe and Harris. Morkel was a bit down. So much depends on Steyn who hasn't had much rest. Kallis is not what he was. Surely the selectors might look at Parnell who would also shore up the batting.
Steyn = ?
Morkel = Zaheer
---daylight---
Kallis = Harbhajan
Ishant = Harris
Tsotsobe = Sreesanth

I'd say the lineups are about even, except for the massive Steyn factor.

This is also the reason the last match had such awful imbalance. Without Zaheer, there's daylight between the two lineups.

Man.. Steyn vs Sehwag over the last few years has been awesomeness. Neither of them have dominated the other in unhelpful conditions. It's equal so far. Gotta love it.

Unfortunately pretty much all those wickets have become slow-low pancakes. Among that list the last match of the SA series in Mumbai (at the Brabourne stadium not Wankhede) was on a wicket that was of the 90's-'02 variety. But can't remember any recent matches at the other grounds which weren't slow+low turners.
I dunno. Those particular pitches still have enough in it for the spinners IF your good enough. Unfortunately Ohja isn't that good a spinner IMO and Bhajji as we all know can be average if he doesn't get a few wickets early. The good thing with those pitches is that they deteriorate AND we get reverse swing. In total flat pitches there is no reverse swing or turn.

Yeah true.

I wouldn't say it's yours to lose yet, though. Still so much cricket still to be played, and low-scoring games can change in an instant- one quality spell and one quality innings from here potentially gives South Africa the match.
'one quality innings' (from Kallis, Amla or AB) is very likely...

but 'one quality spell' (from Steyn) destroying India's batting lineup on day 2 and 3, not very likely if you ask me...

I find Steyn vs Tendulkar in South African conditions much more entertaining personally...

India will collapse once this first wicket falls, I can feel it. I just hope we get a few on the board before that.

Also, yes, SA are desperately missing a number eight quality batsman.

Don't forget Smith. Fourth innings specialist.

But yeah, something special with the ball looking less and less likely with every passing moment here.

Steyn vs Tendulkar is entertaining as well (first test day 1 was a treat). Steyn vs Tendulkar only started mainly this year whereas Sehwag vs Steyn was a treat even in that 08 series. I realize Steyn played against us in 06 but I'm not counting that since Steyn wasn't the bowler he is now back then.

Steyn is miles ahead of every Indian bowler.

Zaheer Khan > Morne Morkel
Ishant Sharma > Tsotsobe
Kallis versus Sreesanth - I dunno.
Harris > Harbhajan (in South African conditions, at least based on what I have seen).

Zaheer's good in these conditions and he only has to roll up to claim Smith's scalp. Maybe they should rest Smith's hand in this series knowing full well that we won't survive Khan for long.
