I'm about as cynical as they come, but this is just so utterly ridiculous. I mean they need to score at an RR of like 2.1, and they just flayed us for 16 runs this over.

Richards: It's not the players, its the system. Unless they fix that, this will keep happening. There are 30 domestic teams. 30! And this the best team, so imagine how the worst team would do.

He is absolutely right. He wants 10 teams to be in India, and I can't disagree.

The thing is, things are never going to change.

Doesn't matter, It's still a 10 wicket victory for me.
Not particularly but if you are going for total mental annihilation, then ten wicket victories are fantastic.

I'm afraid this means showing a sign of contempt for India.
As well they should. Mentally destroy them.

Lay off Turbinator. He's just rooting for his team, nothing wrong with that. Fan's optimism is the least of the team's problems. Its BCCI and how they prepare cricketers to succeed at the international levels, the coaching at the lower levels and even in Ranji Trophy is often dire, and the stars never play domestic cricket so the other players never get to test themselves against the best. Those are some of the problems.

BCCI needs to bring foreign players in, or make the stars play more domestic cricket. In addition, market the domestic games more aggressively and make the pitches more variable so the batsmen can learn on all pitches. Invest in coaching at the junior levels, and especially at the Ranji levels.

Every ranji trophy should, at the minimum, a staff of 2-3 coaches (head coach, batting/bowling coach, fielding coach), and a physio. Make sure guys get coached up from the bottom up, so when they make it to the national stage, they aren't overawed. BCCI has the money to do this, and its not extravagant. I mean cricketers showing up fat and out of shape is simply unacceptable. It borders on the ludicrous IMO. Now, once they are in the team, and they are like Warne, maybe you can selectively turn a blind eye...but they should never be picked if they have a fat ass or are lards in the field. Its also unacceptable for players to come into the national side and the first delivery they face happens to be on a type of pitch they've never even imagined before.

And it is also stupid to have 17 year old kids debuting for a test side without having the proper FC experience to prepare them for all conditions and situations. Thats how you ruin careers before they even begin. Being 25-30 years old is not too old to debut for a test side. Experience is a plus, not a minus. Its one thing to invest in youth, its another to ignore great performances just because they are 25 years old. Its the dumbest mindset I've ever heard (if Hussey was playing in India, he wouldn't be selected).

Its about putting the money back into the system, rather than increasing the national team salaries or forming 22 committees (yea they form committees for fun) for every random thing.

The entire setup needs an overhaul, or at the very minimum, very radical change for India to ever seriously challenge the world for a #1 spot.
Just wanted to repost because now I am just pissed.

As I type this, Smith goes. Damn, so I guess this will be a 'positive' in the match. 'Well the boys worked hard and we did get a wicket.' Pollock comes in, they want to finish it fast. Great message being sent out.

A 9 wicket loss wont make you feel any better than a 10 wicket loss, so it's still a 10 wicket victory.
