yeah and while this is a good start, until that happens, i wouldn't count him in either....what i am saying is when he was pushed out of international cricket, it was clear that he didn't belong in it, in fact he hadn't belonged in it for quite a while before that and had been just hanging on more or less because he was the captain....now he's been brought back for either political reasons or because the current middle order is just crappier than he ever was and not for any amazing surge of form that he's exhibited recently, for all the support for "dada" in india and on internet forums, the reasons for his return in my opinion are all negative and he really, really needs to prove that he belongs out there....
He just scored a century in a Duleep Trophy match and top-scored on a dodgy Eden Gadens pitch. It's not brilliant form but he wasn't just randomly drafted in. If he had been out-of-form, they would have opted for Badrinath. The lack of solid middle-order options definitely played a part, but he wasn't exactly "gifted" a spot this time (like he has in the past).

Good start by the Indians (90/5) but Pathan’s last over did not make for good reading…

From Cricinfo.com

17.6 Pathan to van Jaarsveld, FOUR, Another one! Full and straight again, van Jaarsveld this time just glances it behind sqare to the long leg fence. Fine leg tries to cut it off but the ball was going to the fence.
17.5 Pathan to van Jaarsveld, FOUR, TONK! Full and straight once more, Jaarsveld creams an awesome on-drive. Mid-on had no chance, just had to fetch the ball at the ropes. What a counterattack!
17.4 Pathan to van Jaarsveld, FOUR, CRACK! Too full and straight this time, van Jaarsveld puts it away to the deep midwicket boundary with ease. Pathan getting a bit of tap now
17.3 Pathan to van Jaarsveld, no run, Same shot but hits it straight to the fielder this time, though.
17.2 Pathan to van Jaarsveld, FOUR, What a SHOT! Jaarsveld rocks on his backfoot and plasters it past the fielder at mid-off. Eases the pressure somewhat

Not much batting left after Alfonso, Vaughan will have to bat well if South Africa are to avoid the follow on.

Seven down now and I thought this wicket was meant to be a road, LOL. India could win by an innings here, its raining LBW's, five so far. Seems like the batsman are doing a Loots Bosman and playing across the line. Innings should be over anytime soon.

Is anyone watching this live on television? I'd like to know what you thought of the performance of the four Indian seamers here. I wouldn't read too much into VRV Singh's exploits so far, since he's bowled lots of four-balls, though he's good raw material as a strike bowler. Likewise, Irfan, who's of little use bowling first-change and is better off opening the bowling. Strangely, the reserves are eight down and the Indians haven't yet introduced a spinner. How was their fielding?

India did not enforce the follow on, ROSA out for 138. Wasim Jaffer already gone for the Indians, two ducks for the game and the ground total of ten runs scored in four innings so far.

Okay Gambhir so should play over Jaffer in the first test. Awesome bowling by the Indians. Lets see if they can do this to the likes of Kallis and all them. And as I write this, there goes Viru. Haha

Glad Ganguly got some runs and that the Indian seamers bowled well, but FFS can our openers by a freaking run?

Hopefully Sachin and Laxman can score some runs.

10.2 Morkel to Tendulkar, FOUR, What a shot! Great straight-drive right back past the bowler. Mid-off had no chance. Might as well have stood there, admired and applauded. It's the master after all!

Probably only a couple of batsman ever to play Cricket can drive the ball better than Sachin.

So you've finally admitted Jaffer should go? Seriously this is a big problem for India. IMO Schewag could do with a spell down the order to get his form back but there's no-one to replace him as opener Unless India sort this out they will struggle. When they drew in Australia they had two 100 opening stands and two others over 50. Quite frankly India's openers might not muster 100 runs for the first wicket in this series - never mind one innings.

LBW’s galore here (eighth of the day) , Sachin just getting trapped by Hayward, Ganguly and Pathan’s knocks taken on more significance as the game progresses it would seem.

Just for the first test match. Since Gambhir didn't get a go in this match I would like to see him play instead of Jaffer the first match. Nothing can be done about Sehwag unless we decide to play Jaffer and Gambhir, which I highly doubt will happen.
