***Official*** India in Pakistan

Irfan is a good bowler and he wil trouble Pakistan especially with the new ball. As a Pakistani fan i would be worried of him but still the major threats has to be Kumble and Harbi.
I dont think pacers will be major impact makers in the series until an unless the name is "Shoaib Akhtar"

i agree that ifran is not that great. Just look at the stats. Pathan has picked up 39 wickets against the minnows averaging about 11.5 per wicked and against the top teams 34 wickets at an average of 33. More of a worry for pathan is that he averages 42 against pakistan with a strike rate of 84 and out of the 6 matches pathan has played against pakistan 3 of them have been at home. Keeping in mind pathan is india's number one strike bowler (in terms of pace bowling). On the flip side Akthar is generally world class against the top teams with the acception of australia where he averages 35. India clearly cant compete with pakistans pace attack. Where india has the edge is in the spin department where kumble and harbs excel with kumble picking up 54 against pakistan at an average of 28 and harbs picking up 15 wickets at 33 whereas kaneria is decent but his average of 30 is mainly due to his 34 wickets hes picked up against bangledesh and this is around 25% of the wickets hes picked up in his career but in saying that he also performs against the indians with 26 wickets at an average of 32. Also do not under-estimate pakistans batting as form can have a huge bearing in the middle as inzi has averaged 83 in the past year (2005) yousuf 52 salman butt 42 and younis khan a touch under 60 this compares with india's tendulkar 44 laxmans 46 gambhirs 31 gangulys 24 yuvraj 37 and dhoni's 37. But then you might be saying how did india win 5 out of their 8 tests in the past year well india's sehwag has had a good year maybe even unnoticed with an average of 60 and dravid has been at his consistant best at 53. So it looks to be a hell of a matchup
in my opinion which probably counts for nothing here is my ratings

Sehwag > Butt
Gambhir = Malik
Dravid = Younis at present form that is
Tendulkar = Inzi
Laxman < Yousuf
Yuvraj = Afridi
Dhoni = Akmal
Irfan > Naveed
Khan <<<< Akhtar
Harbhajan >> Sami
Kumble > Kaneria

looks fairly even to me
How can you compare Harbhajan and Sami?

Kamran Akmal rates Dhoni as the second best keepr-batter behind Gilchrist.. Reverse psychology or genuine statement from a fellow wicky.. Not sure of the reliability of the source though..
Its not Dhoni and its not Akmal. Sangakkara is daylight ahead IMO. Both Akmal and Dhoni are promising, but if Pakistan or India had the opportunity to choose Sangakkara in the team, its pretty damn obvious Akmal and Dhoni would be sitting on the sidelines or playing domestic cricket.

Both teams will play 12 players a side. So all the Indian 16 players would have got a match before the first test.

The practice match is not being overed by CricInfo, but the Indians seem to have started well (read on) and were at 39 for no loss when the first bulletin came out.

88 for 1 at lunch, gambhir with a half-century, jaffer not out on 30, let's see how far he can go to stake a claim for the opener's spot

India does well on day 1 to finish with 298/4 off 77 overs with Gambhir making 53, Jaffer making 58, Dravid making 63, Tendulkar making 74, Laxman 23* and Yuvraj 11*. Irshad, Gul, Arafat and Imran Farhat took 1 wicket each for Pakistan A.

This match a 12-a-side match with only 11 players to bat and field for each team.

So good to see Tendulkar and Dravid getting some runs, and its also great that Jaffer and Gambhir are taking up the 'challenge', if you will, in regards to the battle over the opening spot. Good day for India.

They were discussing the day's play on the telly and one of the expert said Irshad looked as quick as Shoaib :unsure:
