Total dominance by nz at this stage, can't remember seeing a worst Indian batting lineup touring than this one.
Their bowlers have the skills to pull them back into the game, but like a lot of other overseas sides they bowl too short.

I hope nz considers player the 5 fast bowlers more regularly- it's just a case of how Jamison will go overseas.

Virat Kohli gets heckled by a section of the crowd at Hagley Oval and he responds by gesturing towards them from second slip as if to say they’re drunk even pretending to be wobbly on his feet to prove his point. #NZvIND #INDvNZ #ViratKohli https://t.co/AWPQnu9Y0z

As for "Great team", yes they are a great team . Best in the world and possibly Indias best ever test side.
If you put them in comparison to atg great teams offcourse they dont look that great. Either way I think they are quite a long way off even to be in that conversation.
I would say the India team of 2007-11 is a step above this team. Maybe not in the seam bowling, but in every other regard that team had the edge, and they built a really good away record to sit alongside their home-town dominance (wins in England and NZ, draw in SA, put up a good fight in Aus before getting shafted by the umpires and going down 2-1).

The current seam bowling attack India has is about 10x better though. They have 3 Zaheer Khans (and tbh better) now.

that 2009 side barely got over the line against vettori's nz, the second worst nz side in my entire life.

we know how they go against a normal nz side, we saw in 2002.

this indian team is so much better overseas than they were. not as good as when the second tier players like vijay were around but this is an anomaly for pujara/kohli/rahane due to good bowling and probably some poor form. they will bounce back.

unlike us they can actually get past 200 in australia. im not going to drag them down too much, especially since i think their bowlers have been too short all series and ashwin is a joke away from home. if they pitched it up a bit further this would be a 200 v 250 series imo.

This Indian team is almost performing like the one that visited our shores last time around for test. The previous one put a decent fight at Auckland and were front runners at Basin till B Mac, BJ and Jimmy turned it around.

Speaking to one of the BCCI guy over a dinner few days ago in Wellington he said everyone in the set up knows Kohli was falling over but no one can convey this to him barring Ravi Shastri the coach. Saw Kohli at the nets at Basin (the cage) and he was batting rubbish. Mainly missing or mishitting and in between hitting one or two from the middle. Not the kind of form he should be in on these decks. The nets at Basin was flat as well. Who was going to bell the cat though?

One of the Indian players wanted to have a hit but all their gears were sent off to Christchurch immediately after the last test match finished. No chance for some of the lads to train either. The Indian team was in Wellington pretty much 3 days after the last test match finished. This tour has been a fiasco for India. So much for Ravi Shastri claiming they will play like no.1 team. Don't know what that means. I can only think India were over confident. They didn't realize they have very inexperienced batters barring three, Kohli, Pujara and Rahane. Rest are just taking baby steps.

Nothing to take away from the BC bowling though. Yes the Indians' batting has been not so great at times but barring say few overs here and there our bowlers have bowled in areas of interest. The trio of Pujara, Kohli and Rahane are seasoned campaigners. It takes good bowling to knock them over. We haven't bowled too many hit me balls and every bowler has bowled consistently well. Last night Indians bowled really well. Good pace and movement off the deck. They are a good watch Bumrah, Shami and Yadav.

which one of you ****s is 'the niche cache' on fb btw? i refuse to believe there's a nerd out there blogging about the plunket shield in a youthful way who isn't tragically depressed enough to have a few thousand posts here.

Most of the Plunket Shield stuff on their website seems to be written by someone called Scott Miller.

If he's not a member here he should join.

gotta put my hand up and admit i underestimated jamieson

i was like 'oh yeah he's meme level tall but he's never had a massive shield season and he's only 125kph. if he adds pace or starts cutting through teams we'll have a look.'

well he's meme tall, 135kph with plans to get faster, bowls to the plan set for him and he's taking wickets.

this guy has serious potential.
Got to ask - why does he need to get faster? At his height, between 130-135 should be ideal. I'm not sure if there's an optimal pace for the ball to swing, but I feel it's not my faster than that.
I remember Steyn dialling back his speeds and getting massive hoop. With Jamieson, the shape he gets, and from being 6'9 must be so intimidating to face

He'll probably naturally get a bit quicker (conditioning/gym work especially if he gets a test contract)

i thought he was more 125kph before debut, so more pace and a dominant shield season would have been more of a 'pick me' demand.

135kph is fine, but i like that he wants to get quicker because he'd be terrifying at 140.

Umesh reiterating the great improvements in his bowling. No longer consider him a liability of any kind and an able replacement for any of the first choice pacers.
