***Official*** India in New Zealand 2013/14

In the subcontinent, the batting makes up for the bowling weaknesses but outside, it isnt able to cover that deficiet. Problem for India that all bowlers who are waiting for an opportunity also look decidedly average

Poor strike rate is the Indians' undoing yet again. Why can't they take wickets? Or at least pick bowlers who can take wickets? All the bowlers with permanent places in the side (except Ishant, who's on the bench) have dreadful strike rates. At the end of this series, Bhuvneshwar and Ashwin should be discarded as India regulars, and it may be time to phase out Jadeja too- long slumps of mediocrity masked by flash-in-the-pan performances. Change the whole bowling attack, if they even want to win the forthcoming ODI series against England, forget the World Cup.
I think India have been lucky despite the fact that they've lost - they've really lagged behind in the opening stages and Rohit has been a major problem there. The reason they've stayed in the games has been the fact that we've not done the consolidation overs very well and also that our bowlers are stuck bowling short at the death which just gets us owned.

PS... great stuff Taylor - this is how you should bat forever more, no more slog sweep.

Expected you to come here with the Jadeja hate. Just piss off with that. A brainless turd wouldn't want to drop him

Yep.

I look forward to the batsmen being blamed again.

I hope you aren't rooting for Ishant to be in the team

Congrats Ross. At one point we used to debate who was better out of Jesse and Ross. Seems like a long time ago.

Just making sure they don't lose a wicket and let India get on a roll, also seeing off one of their better bowlers too - decent situational batting from McCullum in my view. Allowing Taylor to continue at run rate and get within striking distance before he goes at it.
Oh, please. If Guptill was doing exactly the same thing, you would have launched into a tirade.

The Indians have celebrated mediocrity for years, under Dhoni's captaincy. He's turned a performance-oriented team into a friends' welfare club. What can you expect, when they persist with Jadeja and Bhuvneshwar, utter waste of space in a team that needs wicket-taking bowlers? Look at their strike rates- all touching 50, after more than 20 games! At least your man Tim Southee has got a decent balance of economy and strike, and gets wickets when there's at least a little help. McClegs isn't too bad either- better than this bunch of laggards who can't take a wicket and stay in the Indian side despite poor strike rates.

Can't blame Rohit all the time, who's only out of place and needs a refresh. I don't believe he should be opening the innings- he's a middle-order player, and should have stayed that way, or at least reverted now.

Chasing down scores of 300 will always be tough, but doing so when you're 25 from 10 overs will make it near impossible.

Have the bowlers under performed? Yes - but they could've made it a lot easier on themselves with the chasing if they weren't constantly requiring 8 an over from 30 out.
