***Official*** India in England

Gone! England have an opening, they need another wicket before the close of play. With new ball just around the corner, India need to not lose the plot right here.

Jenny's friend, the mysterious Barfly, notes: "One thing today proves is that this is worthy of a five-Test series, and not a pitiful three." Quite, they perhaps could have done with fewer one-dayers, instead of the 116 that are scheduled.

Cricinfo nails it.

Oh Rich. Its about 5-6 in England now and in nigh on 3 in the morn here in Aus. So when I wake up, I hope to see some explaining.

I know averages aren't everything, but Buthcer, Hussain, Atherton, Stewart and others average signifcantly less than their counterparts of tday. Why are they better? Is it the heart that they show?
That's because batting in England has been ridiculously easier between 2002 and 2006 than it was at just about any other point in history, and certainly massively more so than in the 1990s.

I fail to see how anyone who's followed the thing closely and is willing to open their eyes could come to any other conclusion.
And Butcher? I still don't understand why you rate him so highly. He was absolutely dreadful for the first 50 games of his career. (Were you bickering about how he should of been dropped after 10 tests and this that and the other). In my opinion, Butcher was a companion for 50 odd tests.
Not true. Butcher had a poor opening series (Ashes 1997), then a very good period (1998), then an absolute shocker for a good 12 games (22 innings without a half-century). However, from his recall in 2001 onwards he was a very fine player, scoring runs virtually without break until what looks like being the end of his career.

Thought the duck bit was quite funny, TBH.

Anyway, taking the light is the right decision but one they might, you never know, come to regret it they run-out of time (tomorrow's forecast is awful, and I don't know what it's like for Mon and Tue).

Indeed. A disgrace the WI got 4 really and India got 3 really.

As said ad nauseum though - was due to the reciprocal nature of the deal between the BCCI and ECB.

Most people would have preferred 3 to WI and 4 to Ind, I imagine.

5 to India and 2 to WI if possible. Don't really care about the BCCI and ECB deals either tbh.

I can't say I care for them but sadly, they are the way they are, and there's no-one you can moan at because of this fact.

Once India's tour of England was scheduled 2 years ago, this tour was going to be the way it was. Everything else had to be fitted around it.

Can moan here tbh. Perfect place for it really.

Has anyone done any stats to quantify the jammiest two days of cricket I've ever followed? No small wonder Anderson was getting so wound up. Today and yesterday combined have been absolutely unreal, the openers must have played and missed over a dozen times each, with plenty of shots that were out of control. Then of course a plumb lbw was turned down and several not out but giveable lbws were turned down too, as compared to yesterday.

I was expecting the game to punish England for their fannying about and slow over rates in the last Test (ironic that today at times they got through overs more quickly) but this has been ridiculous.

Firstly, congrats Sachin on 11 000 runs. Secondly, like SS said, Bumble is the greatest man alive... I really honestly couldn't stop laughing. Thirdly, India better not **** this up. Fourthly, the weather better not **** India up. Fifthly, I agree this should be a 5 Test series. And lastly, India is so "gun".
