When I say someone cannot play such-and-such, it does not mean they never, once will, just that they can't play them often enough for consideration. I'm sure he's played the odd one before Lord's, too.

No-one doubts that Jaffer can play big innings, just not when the ball does things.
Where common english is concerned, the english common people speak, when some one says that x cannot play in y conditions, that means that he cannot play even once.

Q) Can Johny eat a burger?

If Johny can eat a burger even once, it means that he can, indeed, eat a burger.

Your new stance is also tricky. You are now saying that he can't play a big inning often enough for consideration when the ball moves. You can't make a sweeping statement like that, again.

What is all this fuss the Indian players making about the rooms that have been given to them, they have even made an official complaint to their tour manager about this they are saying the rooms are too small and many rooms don't even have a window.

P.S.- I really loved your avatar Turb:lol:

Why is Johny only eating one burger, he should have a balanced diet and my idea of a perfect balaced diet is to have a cheese burger in each hand:laugh:

Can't condone Shah in the side, TBH, never mind at three. Obviously he must play for the minute, but I don't see him lasting long, if he was gonna be a ODI-standard player he'd have done it by now I reckon.
I don't post as much as many on this baord, but I do read a lot. One thing that I have noticed is Richard's analysis of players at the start of their career and there are a few things I don't get.

What was your opinion on Mathew Hayden after 20 or so Tests? (I'd hate to see you on the Australian selection panel).

In conjunction with that. I remember you and I arguing over Flintoff's all-rounder status. Leaving that aside, the same question in regards to Hayden must be asked? Should Flintoff of played anymore Tests after 20 or so matches? But my other question is that you amongst others are quite content to pick and pull apart an individuals career i.e. 'Freddie's been averaging x with the bat and x with the ball....' it just seems like a contradiction.

So, using your theory Rich. Hayden and Flintoff shouldn't of played more that 20 odd tests. Symonds should of not even made the plane to South Africa in 2003 and a whole bunch of other players shouldn't of worn international colours after a few games.

Please enlighten me.

Yep, could quite easily argue all of those. Symonds especially was exceptionally fortunate to play as long as he did, but ITE it paid-off.

I was still saying in 2003 that Flintoff wasn't good enough, and he wasn't, but he became so that summer and winter.

Don't really see how it's a contradiction to split careers up, though, if anything quite the opposite. If someone's very poor for a time, it doesn't really matter much if they then do much better for a later time.

Yes, the first post could indeed have done with one or two extra words at a certain point.

Sourav Ganguly will be playing in this test after all, the thorn in England's side has been put back in. I would much rather bowl to Yuvraj Singh than I would Ganguly.

Ganguly, no more gonna be thorn for England side. He was when he was in his prime. Getting a wicket of Ganguly is easier than that of Yuvraj ATM..
