Dravid and Ganguly put CW XI under pressure
Day 3 - Cricket Web XI vs India - 4th Test @ Pickford Reserve

Cricket Web XI will need a further 286 runs on a difficult pitch if they are to win the Test series against India. An excellent partnership of 142 was absolutely crucial for the tourists, as Sourav Ganguly chimed in with Rahul Dravid to rescue their team from 61-4 and set a challenging target of 322. The start by CW XI was positive, however, and at 36-0 they will count themselves in with a chance.

The early play was all India's. The overnight batsmen played carefully and straight and advanced their partnership to 43 until Sachin Tendulkar hit a low return catch to Nick Borcich. The Cricket Web Black fast man was by far the best bowler on show, and went on to take his second 5-wicket haul of the series over the course of the day. He was made to wait after the dismissal of Tendulkar, however. Ganguly looked at ease with three boundaries within his first 9 balls, and both he and Dravid were watchful but positive.

The prolific Dravid ground out another half-century, facing 121 balls, and at lunch the score was 139-4. In the second session it was the turn of Ganguly to celebrate. In what he would later describe as one of his finest innings, the left-hander was majestic through the offside and reached fifty from 85 balls. Even given the helpfulness of the surface, none of the bowlers truly troubled the batsmen. In fact it took a stunning bit of reverse swing to break the stand. Mike Wilson continued to bowl impressively from around the wicket, and rattled the offstump with a full-length beauty. Ganguly stood for 2 minutes after his offstump was removed, staring in disbelief, but out for 75.

CW XI tried to force home their advantage, but when the edge of Dhoni's bat was found, Mork failed to cling on. India then led by 301 with 5 wickets in hand, and soon after Dravid played an authoritative pull shot to notch his hundred. The game and series were quickly slipping from his team, but Pickup kept faith in his fast men with the new ball. And it was not long before he was rewarded. Borcich first roared in appeal and got Dravid lbw, even though replays suggested an inside edge. Demeza then pitched up and Pathan played an expansive drive, but only nicked to slip, out for a pair.

The game was wide open again at 251-8. The CW XI bowlers needed no second invitation to hasten the end for India's batsmen. With a sharp lifting ball Borcich dealt crucially for MS Dhoni (29) - his fifth wicket - then Pickup snapped up his opposite number for 5. And Richards rounded off the innings with his only wicket of the game, getting Ishant Sharma lbw for 0. CW XI were left with 10 overs to begin their chase. The tone was set by Mork, twice flashing Sharma to the point boundary in the first over. He was beaten comprehensively to finish the over, but there was no other drama in the mini-session.

Mamesh and Mork embrace history
Day 4 - Cricket Web XI vs India - 3rd Test @ CWBCC Stadium

It was a day for the history books, as Cricket Web XI not only rose to overcome India and win the series 2-0, but did so without losing any wickets. There was absolutely nothing to celebrate for India, and they were ultimately thrashed in a match that they dominated for large parts. And at the centre of the CW XI success was none other than Thamba Mamesh, rounding off an epic return to the Test team.

Mamesh plays another powerful stroke.

The critics have harped on about his inability to score runs when the going is tough, but on a pitch that faciliated the fall of 30 wickets in less than 3 days, and with a series win on the line, it could hardly have been tougher for Mamesh. But even so he progressed with the confidence of a man ready to embrace greatness. It was like watching a young Andrew Cloete, taking apart South Africa during his historic double hundred way back in 2003. Every time Mamesh chose to go down the wicket, he met the ball with the middle of the bat and chose his gaps with perfection. Driving, pulling, sweeping and occasionally cutting, it was an exercise in near perfection. Indeed, but for a flick of the bat down the legside when he had 112, it was a chanceless innings.

In the morning Mamesh raced to 50 from 55 balls, and still 34 minutes before lunch he struck his 12 boundary and 100th run from his 107th delivery faced. After the legside drop by Dhoni, Mamesh batted beautifully and dominated the afternoon session too. Not to be understated was the effort of Håkon Mork. The wicketkeeper-batsman completed one of his most accomplished series with a flawless 120 in support of his headlining partner. Mork himself collected 14 fours, one short of Mamesh, but always seemed to be in the shadow of genius. Mamesh turned the ball off his hips for one for the 250 partnership and there was no enthusiasm in the Indian ranks as the deficit was only 82.

All signs of a troublesome pitch seemed to disappear with India's spirit, and aside from the odd low delivery, little suggested the intensity of the three days before. At tea the score was a round 300-0, so CW XI played with greater urgency on the resumption and knocked off the remaining 32 in 6.1 overs. Mamesh carried his bat for 182 and scored the winning single off his 233rd delivery, then hugged Mork, in tears, to celebrate their historic achievement.

OMG what a way to finish off a series. That really was a brillant Test match, had some great bowling from both ends for first three days. A couple brillant innings as wickets were falling at a rapid. High scoring run rate through and then that partnership to finish things. Modern Test Cricket at its best.

I can't believe that return to the Test team. I don't think I could have asked for anything more. Pretty sure that would be two of my three highest scores in Test cricket in one series.

Kudos to the batting efforts of Young, Mork and Cloete. If I can keep this form up, then potentially we can have a dominate top order just like in the ODI side. Also great bowling by Borcich. Really stood up this series when we need some wickets. Hopefully he can keep those type of performance coming.

That would have to up there with our best Test series wins, if not the best.

Excellent :) 2-0, awseome series victory over the Indians.

Bit peeved at my average. 17 wickets in a 4 game series is a decent enough return, though.

Over the moon at getting a couple runs with the bat in the series, hah. Almost as many as Rob

Brilliant performance from Thamba and Hakon there, turned what looked to be a difficult game into total domination. Great win for us.

From the despondency of the NZ defeat to a convincing series win over the arguable World #2s. Fantastic work, guys - and I await with intrigue the player of the series vote. Feel Mamesh, Young and Borcich all have a shout.

Also delighted at getting the batting average above the bowling average for the series - is that not the sign of a truly great all-rounder?

Can't argue with the top 4 averaging 330 between them. Good stuff guys, long time in the pads for me on Day 4!

My vote is for Young for MotS.

Mamesh, Mork, Cloete, Borcich and Pickup were fantastic, but Young was the most consistent of them all and played a couple of crucial knocks in the series. Dravid was also fantastic, mind.
