Stonewalling Dravid spares India's blushes
Day 5 - Cricket Web XI vs India - 2nd Test @ CW Oval
Rahul Dravid displayed exceptional concentration in a defiant effort, as he batted for 304 balls to help save the second Test for India. The Indians looked to be in trouble when they began with 9 wickets intact and a day to survive. The Webheads were consistently frustrated on the worn surface, and failed to finish off a game that they dominated.

The first to fall on the day was Irfan Pathan (27), dropped twice before he nicked an attempted drive against Demeza. With the nightwatchman gone, Cricket Web XI hoped to make steady inroads into the opposition batting. Instead they were kept wicketless until lunch. Virender Sehwag raised a surprisingly careful half-century and he and Dravid continued well into the second session. Sehwag grew confident enough to notch 45 from 62 balls after lunch, bringing up a ton by pulling Neil Pickup for four runs. The CW XI captain was economical, but particularly ineffective on the fifth day pitch - a common theme of recent times - though he tempted Sehwag to a fatal slog, as the batsman was well caught by Demeza at deep midwicket.
The breakthrough gave CW XI a small opening, with 43 overs remaining in the game and 7 wickets to get. But that initiative gradually slipped away as Dravid and Tendulkar gradually ate away at the clock with little flair, but big courage. The first innings hero, Nick Borcich did not get the bounce of the first innings, but was amidst the action in the match. Pickup procured a leading edge of Tendulkar's bat, but Borcich dropped the chance, on his knees at mid-off. At that stage there was just greater than hour remaining, so the game pettered out with no other incident.
