amazing 303 run partnership between dravid and laxman. i had predicted that kolkata 2001 will be repeated and it has been repeated on a smaller scale.

also, this time, dravid is the 281 guy. i, although a laxman fan, but i would like to c dravid hit indias 1st ever 300 in this match. not to forget laxman 381 due to come later on in the series. laxman, cannot be called a support player. as he outscored dravid till around 128-130. after around 130, dravid scored very quickly.

for tommorow, irfan pathan will have to give the support role to dravid. irfan is an all-roner and i cant understand y crumbler was sent ahead of him. expecting to c an irfan 50 on debut.

Kenny, sorry mate but the injury excuse is a load of bull****.

Its not as if India haven't had their own injury problems

Credit where credit's due, India are in a better position now than they were at 4-85 because of the superlative batting of Laxman and Dravid.
I didn't use injury as an excuse did I? Both sides have their injuries.......and no argument from me about the brilliant batting exploits of both players.
My argument was in response to doomsayers about Australia's depth, when India's strength is in it's batting, and our bowling is where our injuries are, in the main.

I think all the bolwers available to us bowled very well at times, and you still have to score the runs, don't you........

Oh and Kenny, don't even bring up the Ponting dropped catch
of Laxman.

Ponting was lucky to have made that 200, given that he was given the benefit of an lbw appeal by Kumble on 12 which looked decidedly plumb.

But he made good his chance....ditto with Laxman and that's all that matters.
I take it you must be an Englishman living in Australia?

Amits,

What in Pathan's background makes you call him an allrounder?

His first class average (17.07) is decidedly ordinary. Has he yet to show his full talent in first class cricket?

irfan is an all-rounder. he batted very well in the u-19s in seamer-firndly conditions.

dont go by his 1st class averages. they will improve soon. within 5 years, irfan will be no.6 or no.7 batsman for india.

If he's bowling well enough to stay in the team.

to be realistic is just asking too much of me.
Hehe, amits... very cute. Good that you finally understand what were asking.
Although, do you realise that after you said you cannot possibly be realistic, you were more realistic than ever?:O

Good work.:)

Err, to all the people naysaying the Aussie depth, let's not lose sight of the fact that the pitch is a belter. I was there today and not only did Dravid and Laxman play particularly well but the Aussies bowled solidly throughout, Jason Gillespie being extremely unlucky most of the day.

My tip? Without sporting declarations, there shan't be a result in this Test. The pitch is simply too good. I saw Dravid take his hand away from his bat to ONE ball all day which misbehaved in any way.

Kumble just finished with 5/154 and will be on a hat trick in the second innings.
Did it prevent the Aussies scoring 556? Nope. And let's face it, two of his wickets were bunnies (Williams and MacGill). I maintain that Adelaide Oval hasn't ever really been favourable to wristies and Murali Kartik would have been a better pick.

Yes..it, prevented aus scoring another 50 runs.It was 556/7. If Kumble's 3 wicket in an over wasn't there, sure, it would have gone to 600.

Please..don't write off those two. They are a part of World Champion team.
Also I don't think they will give their wicket for free.

So if Walsh and Tuffers were Australian? Let's face it, MacGill is less than a bunny.

If they are dismissed for less than Australia's 556, then the Aussies have done very well.........after all, had Ponting held the chance from Laxman, India may have been dismissed for around 400.

Doomsayers.......

Had Umpiring decision not gone against India (AA being very unlucky), had Sehwag not dropped the catch and had Zaheer been fit and had played in the match, Australia might not had even scored more than 350!!

Aussies reserves bowlers aren't good enough, they need Lee,McGrath and Warne VERY badly.I think if those three aren't available, then we might see Australia struggling to win matches against some teams!

Mate there is a huge difference between U-19 contest and senior level. Atmost Irfan is handy with the bat, calling him an allrounder isn't correct.

Can anyone tell me as to when Lee and McGrath will be available to play aganst India in this series?

I read somewhere that Lee is playing a domestic match, if he's fit so then why isn't he included in the test team?

I think McGrath is waiting till Sri Lanka to make his comeback.

Lee played in a domestic OD game and bowled 10 overs without taking a wicket. There's a difference between being fit and match ready.

Marc, has it occurred to you that Harbhajan's finger injury (sustained in the world cup) had a contributory effect to his lacklustre bowling performance not only in Brisbane but also the home tests against NZ where conditions were decidedly more favourable for finger spin bowling.

Salamuddin

well, Lee is expected to play in the Boxing day test.

Mcgrath is hoping to be fit for Boxing day....but I dunno if Australia are willing to risk him for that or the subsequent Sydney test.

The safer option is probably to wait till Sri Lanka, but it's a question of how desperate the Aussie selectors are.

yeah Lee is playing in 1 4d game today (finishes today or tomorrow) and another one over next weekend i beleive and is almost certain to play in the boxing day test. McGrath has pretty much been ruled out for boxing day, may play in the new years test - being steve waughs last - but may not till sri lanka.

as for harbajans finger, if it was so bad, he wouldn't have played and Kumble would have, so thats no excuse.

match result: Australia will make a sporiting declaration at some stage, but it wont be enough and the match will end in a draw
