This team is the opposite of the Dravid-Sachin-VVS side. They generally have started series well with the bat. Then it goes pear-shaped after the first 1-1.5 games. Happened in SA, happened in England.

Yeah, but not unexpected when virtually the whole lineup has barely played 10-15 tests. If anything that mental collapse in England will make them tougher. The technical faults, I maintain were a bigger worry. They kept getting out the same way and no one bothered making corrections. Hope there's some improvement here when it does a bit more in Brisbane.

I feel the opposite. Technique can be refined and improved over time; and anyways it is overrated. Technique != success and lots of ugly and limited batsmen have done very well in the past. Ofcourse that means they need to show signs of improving - but improvement very rarely happens over the course of a series anyways. Most of the times they need some time away from international cricket to refine their game.

A mental block on the other hand...that is so much harder to remove. If your batting lineup continuously collapses and buckles under pressure, if your side keeps choking and has the losing habit...that **** is infectious and becomes part of the team culture. It can ruin an entire generation of talented players.

Would much prefer my side failing due to technical shortcomings rather than not having the temperament to handle Test cricket.

That's a more general point. I'm talking specifically about India in these couple of overseas tours. A baptism of fire like the one in England will make them tougher characters imo. You can talk about technique being overrated all you want but those collapse were because the ball swung and there was substantial carry in the pitches. The first match in that series was on a far easier pitch, and we batted all right there. Yet, we almost collapsed in the second innings and lost the game on the last day. Took an innings from Binny of all people to get a draw. We were just as much under the cosh there as in the other tests. But because the conditions were good for batting they were able to get out of trouble.
