Clarkey in the nets practicing upper cutting short stuff. His stance looked very upright too yesterday. Think he can stand still and not duck or twist and he might be able to bat.

That's good news. But if he can't duck or twist he'd better wear plenty of body protection because he's going to wear a few.

Yeah I def noticed this. I was hoping it was just a technical thing

As a neutral observer, Clarke's back is a game changer. I'd rather be in India's position than Australia's. This is a good batting deck and it's going to be perfect on day two and three.
Nah, still 350 on the board, more than likely to get to 400.

More importantly, Johnson and Harris fresh and fired up on day 2. The pitch might be flat but there's bounce.

I'd take Australia's, given scoreboard pressure. Even if Australia makes 400, which you'd think is a bare minimum, it's a mental mission for a team that travels like a bag of prawns on a warm day. Even if Johnson doesn't get amongst them, which is a big if for a side that doesn't always fancy it, Harris and Siddle are going to make them work extra hard for whatever they get. Australia have plenty of bowling options (presuming Watson is fit to bowl) that they'll be able to rotate and keep fresh. India didn't have that luxury.

But..... it's Adelaide. The last three bat first scores: 570, 550 and 604.

400 on Adelaide is almost a failure.

Not Terrible
what teams were those, what bowling attacks?
Anderson, Broad, Swann, Panesar, Stokes

Steyn, Morkel, Kallis, Kleinveldt, Tahir, du Plessis

Zaheer Khan, Yadav, Ashwin, Sharma, Sehwag, Kohli

So all far better attacks than this one.

Well the last two were England and South Africa, so the 1st and 4th () best bowling attacks respectively. It is an underachievement by Australia. But given that Johnson and Harris shot out England for 170 on this ground last year, I think they're doing fine.

Yes, Australia made 570 last match, but we declared in the third innings 3 down from something like 30 overs. If we get 450, we just need to bat for say 60 overs next time round. Australia are without doubt in the better position.

Yeah.

I think there are very few grounds in the world in which scoring 400 in the first innings doesn't put you ahead. Even if not dramatically enhancing your chances of winning, the chances of losing have to be significantly reduced.

Maybe in the UAE you'd be on the back foot ever so slightly, but not in Australia and not with Johnson and Harris.

some light rain around the area now, they have put the covers on, but it shouldn't be consistent, will be on and off for the next 2-3 hours.

Clarke to come in at the next fall of wicket I reckon

I've just realised how many hundreds Warner has already.

Jesus ****ing Christ. Is there a list of fastest batsmen to 10 test tons anywhere?
I think I read that he was the fourth fastest Australian to 10.
Might be a test vs innings thing - I prefer innings.

Bradman (23 innings) Arthur Morris (37), Neil Harvey (41), Matthew Hayden (57), Greg Chappell (60). Warner 61.

Rogers, Watson and Haddin all did nothing yesterday to banish the grey clouds that currently hover over their careers

Indeed, the clouds turned a little more menacing

Rogers is pretty lucky this test got delayed tbh.
