As much as I welcome the Rahul inclusion, apparently he wasn't given an opportunity to bat in any of the warmup games. Strange to see he is being considered a worthy replacement midway through the series.

Yeah, Rahul should definitely open. In his last FC game, he opened for South Zone in the Duleep trophy final and made 305 runs (185 and 130) in 280 balls. Guy has serious talent.
