Tuned into the game when Oz were 10-2 and thought "here we go again."

Since then, my impressions have been as follows

Australia look completely petrified of failure - India has obviously done them great damage and I despair about the rest of the summer

Great to see Warner punted

Mills was good

McClenaghan was ok early but rubbish overall

Admired Wade as he at least had a go

Bailey was horrible early on but looked a test player as things went on

Mitch Marsh could be worth persevering with

Maxwell has talent but no brain

English pitches are gash - Vetori spinning it at right angles says it all

Oz should win but are a long way off being a decent team

If England beat Sri Lanka tomorrow, it looks like England and New Zealand will go through. Barring England thrashing New Zealand and ruining our run rate.

going tomorrow to the England game. Hope the weather is ok. Otherwise a close game would be nice. Possibly a England win. Not asking for much!

So I gather if England win tonight that's us out? And if there's a wash out we'd need a huge win vs SL to lift the NRR?

Nah, it's not all over for you if England win. You'd be one point above Sri Lanka, and one below NZ, so you'd have to beat SL and hope NZ lose. If tomorrow is a washout, you'd have to beat SL heavily and hope England v NZ is one sided, so that your NRR goes higher than the one who loses (you'll both be on three points).

Also, Furball, you were wondering about the reception Bailey gets: https://twitter.com/PeterDellaPenna/status/344816027785375746

wtf, I just checked his cricinfo profile just in case he's actually been shunting it except for the games I've seen; he's averaging 46 in ODIs, and his FC average of 38, while not brilliant, still puts him in the upper echelons of Australian batsmen his age.

****ty weather. We weren't in a great position so can't complain about picking up the point.

If Cardiff is going to be a slow and slightly difficult pitch again for the game against England then we might as well leave Southee out when Elliott returns, even if it leaves us notionally short of a death bowler.

Fell asleep with the TV on, woke up at 4am to see them playing highlights of the last match.

"Oh ****, we've obviously been bowled out already"

Turns off TV. Wake up at 6:30, check the scores.

"No Result? Yep, I'll take that."

No, you're wrong. Australia are 2pts behind NZ whatever happens in the England match. Best result for Aus is a Sri Lanka win, because then if England lose to New Zealand they can still overtake them. Everything else (England win or match abandoned) and they will need a huge reversal in NRR to have a chance of overtaking either England (in the case of match abandoned) or NZ.

Well I hope Sri Lanka don't take the conservative route like Pakistan did and end up losing pitifully. Hopefully they play like they have nothing to lose from here on in, just like 96.
