Harder place to bat, I guess. Cook for example averages 50 outside of England.watching root got me thinking, who was the last english batsman to finish with a test career average at 50+.
ken fricking barrington back in 1968. how is that even possible? only the banglas (understandable) and new zealand have failed to product a 50+ averaging batsman since then. even zimbabwe produced andy flower.
Averaging 50 as an opener in England (or anywhere really) would be some feet. Who would be the last to manage it Hayden?Yeah one of those inexplicable things. KP and Cook averaged over 50 for a bit but couldn't maintain it.
How much did Smith end with? 49?Averaging 50 as an opener in England (or anywhere really) would be some feet. Who would be the last to manage it Hayden?
Looking at how Clarke could end his career at <50 shows how hard it actually is.
Yup. Graeme Smith and Sehwag were over 50 for a long time. Dipped below in their final few matches.Averaging 50 as an opener in England (or anywhere really) would be some feet. Who would be the last to manage it Hayden?
Dravid would've made a mind blowingly good English opener imo.Harder place to bat, I guess. Cook for example averages 50 outside of England.
Not an excuse as our bats grow up learning these conditions, but I'd say that's possibly a factor. No idea if any of the other bats who averages mid-high 40s would see a bump outside of England though.
trott and strauss too.Yeah one of those inexplicable things. KP and Cook averaged over 50 for a bit but couldn't maintain it.
He had back trouble too which stopped it being as high as it may have been.trott and strauss too.
i always thought thorpe had the game to average that high. equally comfortable v pace or spin, could play all round the wicket. when he came back with his head straight from 2003 onwards he was outstanding for a couple of years.
