tbh I think the scoring rate thing was overplayed. When blokes said Conpton was a slow scorer and got bogged down, was Root advocated as a replacement in part because it was thought he'd rotate the strike or score more quickly? Or was it more a question of comparative form between the two of them?
Root's spot was never in question, it was between Compton and Bairstow. Root's opening by default because he's done it before in FC.When blokes said Conpton was a slow scorer and got bogged down, was Root advocated as a replacement in part because it was thought he'd rotate the strike or score more quickly? Root was always going to move up, it was just a case of when. The selectors have obviously decided Bairstow is a better player than Compton and made the change now. Would not be surprised to see Cook/Root and Pattinson opening up ashes battles for many years to come. Could be great viewing as a cricket fan.Root's spot was never in question, it was between Compton and Bairstow. Root's opening by default because he's done it before in FC.
I stick my neck out and say 333.Par 1st inning score anyone?
fancy sticking with haddin the spud, these selectors will never learn.Spoke too soon.
I will be very surprised if Root is a successful test opening batsman unless he changes his technique as it is hard to believe that he will be consistent when he doesn't move his feet, cover off stump and plays with an angled batRoot was always going to move up, it was just a case of when.
