*Official* First Test at Trent Bridge

There's something very Steyn-like about the way Pattinson bowls. Rushes to the crease, easy action, you can feel the pace on the ball as he bowls, and he gets it to move both ways as well.
Yeah, good observation
Pattinson only actually moves it one way conventionally, but that actually makes him more Steyn like. I noticed the similarities when young Patto first arrived on the scene, and it's one of the reasons I've always been a fan. Has so much potential.

mitchell, probably not going to happen, but he's a late devoloper.

Oh, Hildreth should also be in the discussion, awaits "road" comments.

Carberry seems destined to be a one Test wonder IMO. I actually think Bopara would do a better job than Bairstow at 6 and his bowling would have been useful in the first innings too.
Yeah no way Carberry is playing another test, been having a shocking season in the four day game (been great in limited overs.)

As much as it would be hilarious I actually think the selectors have given up on Ravi as a test player. I really wish Ben Stokes would score some bloody runs, he would be perfect.

If an opener's spot becomes available (or number three I guess) then Varun Chopra for me is the biggest competition Compton would have in getting back in. Chopra had a decent winter with the Lions, scores hunderds, and big ones, and has currently scored 795 runs at 66.25. Not sure I'd use him at six though.

That bouncer just reminded me how easy it is to play short stuff on this pitch, how few short balls Australia have bowled and how many Finn gifted to Australia.
Yeah christ just think, this is how Finn was bowling every over.

Starc's bowling feeling very Finn like.

Looks like it wasn't the greatest call to take the new ball.

I've developed such a strong man love for Ravi Bopara over the past year or so that i'd love to see him back in the squad despite his inevitable failures.

Although I don't agree with all the talk of dropping people left right and center after 3 days of the first test match. That's what used to happen in the 90's and early noughties and never worked did it? Australia are allowed to play well you know.
Well we're basically just talking about dropping one player, and it's not just based on one match.

Will actually be very interesting to see how long they persist with Bairstow. They made a big decision before the series, which makes me think they'll give him at least three or four tests this series. However, a twin failure at Lords and he'll have had five tests in a row with just one fifty plus score, which is probably a justifiable drop worthy sample size.

I do remember his name now from the tour match, first time I've ever heard anyone mention his name, even if pretty unlikely.

Yes Stokes is a good shout at number six.

Oh I love Ravi as well, but I can be comfortable loving him in ODIs, it suits his mixture of being slighlty ridiculous but kind of useful. Bringing him back for tests would end that quickly.
