Yep, agreed. When you bat first you might not want to tire your bowlers all in one go or bat last, but when you bat second, you should definitely look to bat only once if you can. If the opposition would comfortably pass your lead should they literally bat out the game if you declared, then it's too early to declare.Declaration is more about how much time is left in the game more than the runs. Even if the Aussies were 300 in front, there's heaps of time left whereas 300 in front with a day and a session and a day to go, you'd think about declaring. Weather forecast a factor too obv.
There's no harm in more runs. The deck is good for batting but as this morning showed, there's enough carry for the bowlers to use. Right now, bat and bat.
