I dunno, how often do you see top-order batsmen caught nicking down the legside (not tucked up by a short ball or anything either)?
What's the difference between that and Ponting nicking a good ball just outside his off stump to the keeper?

Number of batsmen who get caught nicking down the offside >>> number of batsmen who get caught down the legside.

Much, much more margin for error flicking to fine-leg. It's pretty much guaranteed runs for top batsmen. So getting caught on the offside can be put down as getting out to a wicket-taking ball, or succumbing to a bowler's plan, but nicking down the leg-side is pretty much a gift to the fielding team.

Because barely any leg-side nicks get caught. They nearly always go to fine leg, or hit the batsman's body, or bounce before they reach the keeper. No slips!

 Give over man.
Haddin is a very fine player who doesnt score nearly enough runs despite averaging around 40 in test cricket BUT Prior is his equal and arguably one of the 4 best bats in the English team

Reckon they cancel each other out tbh

Yeah, just Julian is an absolute Hadding fan-boy and jerks off over him. It gets a bit tedious, especially when he couples it with Prior bashing

Especially when compared to Dean Jones dropping (who was sometimes criticized for being inconsistent)....just looked up his last 5 Tests...

Think Dean Jones, like David Gower and Michael Bevan, wasn't exactly dropped on the basis of form. They were all generally just considered misfits in the side.

Shaun Marsh returned today with a brilliant century and despite havinng no fc pedigree to speak of, he's another young guy that the selectors seem "desperate" to pick so North beware

Unfortunately, rather than picking Hodge (surely the best player in Oz atm) or Dussey (another infinitely superior short-term band-aid in a like for like choice), we're likely to be stuck with the same ole, same ole until the trophy cabinet is not only bare but collapses through old age

Yes Ponting's dismissal definitely a fortunate one for us. Those types of dismisslas are never planned for and are always a very welcome bonus when you get one, especially when it's the opposition's danger man.

Great to see Hildreth in the runs. Probably has the most pure talent out of any English batsmen IMHO. Question his technique against the moving ball though.

James Taylor and him are the two fighting for Collys spot in my eyes. **** Morgan. Whats he proven?

It's great that we have young talent like Hildreth and Taylor in the Performance squad, but Morgan is clearly very highly rated by the management and is the next man in line. Yes his first-class figures are not staggering but Morgan's potential, attitude, and mental strength singles him out as a man that will score runs in tough situations, this has been demonstrated in the ODI's. While I understand that good performances in a different format should not influence selection in Tests, it is the way he is scoring them in pressure situations that convinces the selectors he's made of the right stuff.
