*Official* Fifth Test (The Oval, London) 27-31 July

Victor Ian

International Coach
No Australian best Test team in the world they are WTC champions. in my opinion the team who holds this title are the best.

Also Australian was the best during 2021-23 timeline.
Nah. WTC is a novelty. We are not NZ who have no real silverware and have to big things up.
We lost when it matters in the series that matters. Yes! This is a lost series because they went there to win and failed. England showed up many problems in Australian cricket. Their bowling plans worked. Ours failed.
Nice to see Broad have his last batting ball be a 6 and his last bowling ball be a wicket.

Congratulations to England and the series result seems a fair outcome. 400 runs is still a powerful task for the 4th innings and not really surprising we fell short. Cummins should go as captain and I agree that Ronald McDonald has been a failure. The tactics have been woeful and I think has effected the morale of the side besides. Would love to see Berry as the coach. I wonder how he'd contextualise those tweets when he meets Cummins?

Ponting seething so much over ballgate that it may be possible to have another crack at having him as coach.
And so he should be. An egregious act. If Anthony Albanese had a functioning set of testicles, we would have declared war on England by now.

Let's see what pitch they'd roll out to counteract us launching a stealth attack in Collins class submarines from the bottom of the sea floor. I reckon NZ would join us with their crack squadron of hot air balloons in fighter jet formation.

I'm not sure whether you're joking...but I honestly don't understand the kneecapping of certain achievement to suit someone's agenda or to make them feel better about their own team, or what the bloody hell it is.

We had real silverware - we were the inaugural WTC winners. There was a big ****ing mace we won, I've seen it. We won the final on neutral turf v India. There's zero point to talking that down. We lost one series, to Australia in Australia, a place no one except India's 2nd XI wins. We were dominant at home. We didn't add relevance to a meaningless competition, the ICC birthed it, all teams tried to win it, and we did so.

Good luck to Australia, they are the Ashes holders. All they needed to do was to draw the series, which they did. They won the big initial moments to go 2-0 up, which was critical. Good on England, who knew they needed to defend 16 or whatever it was in the Super Over of the 2019 WC final, and did so. And good on the same side in the World T20, who won that particular competition.

In my opinion Australia WTC title win was more important than this ashes series so very successful tour for Australia.

Won WTC final
Retain the ashes for 2nd time in row in England!

Confirming Australia as best Test team in the world job done.

England only draw the series because lyon got injured otherwise it would been 3-1 Australia. Rain saved England plus help from the umpires with the ball change.
I couldn't really care less about the WTC but find it amusing that the poms are bigging up a drawn series at home so much. Would find it highly disappointing if that happened to the Aussies in Aus. Especially if we openly ordered specific conditions to our advantage (favourable batting conditions to help our odi sloggers).

I doubt the rain saved the poms (think it was the other way around). They were the only team to dominate at any stage of the series though, yet still only managed a 2-2 result. Some poor Captaincy from both Captains IMO.

I understand that Jimmy still loves playing, it’s very lucrative and that you’re a long time retired but he looked old & well past it in this test

Can’t help but feeling that he should have gone out with Broad as hanging around rarely works results in a fairytale ending

Any comments from England about the spirit of cricket when you swap a 40 over ball for a new ball?
That's poor officiating IMO.

Stokes trying to claim and even reviewing an obviously dropped catch probably gets the *spirit of cricket* award for the series.

He must have been hoping they would just check if it hit Smiths gloves, and not check whether the actual catch was completed.

Yeah, the two of them linking arms and walking off into the sunset yesterday would've been perfect. Can't help but think that Jimmy will start to feel a bit lonely now as well. Both his closest mates in the team have retired and he's still there, sitting in the dressing room doing his very best to look interested while Harry Brook tries to explain to him what Tiktok is.
