Can't disagree with that. I follow the Eels so I'm familiar with the depressing phenomenon of well paid athletes not having a go. It's terrible

Great. Gooch hasn't even realised that Bairstow backs away to the leg side against pace, and then defends him by saying "he doesn't mean to back away."

No ****, Graham. No one means to back away to leg against quick bowling. We're just either talentless hacks or subconsciously soiling ourselves (or both). Neither of these are particularly helpful qualities for Test cricketers.

Really disappointed with Rankin in this test, truly has looked toothless. It seems like he's dropping pace in order to try and gain some control and get the ball to land on the pitch, but that hardly seems to be working with plenty of balls floating down the leg side.

Rarely has less fire been exhibited by a supposedly fast bowler. A nasty bowling coach would do wonders for him.

I can report from the Members' that Australia is so confident only Harris is even bothering to have a hit.

Isn't it just as simple as this batting unit not having faced remotely anything as good as this current Australian attack? I mean, you can go on about there 'ticker' (or lack of) - but the combination of extreme discipline and relentless pace is just far too good for these English batsman with such noticable technical deficancies.

Last time was when they came up against Asif and Aamer and look how that went...

Reports were that England didn't bother to have a hit prior to this Test. For very different reasons than overconfidence though I'd suspect.
