Exactly, Tranmere is a small club and a few fans can have a massive impact on a club. Once they rectified the situation, you'd be able to go back.

But if a few walk from Utd, there's countless others waiting for their opportunity to grab a season ticket.....quite a few with less morals than Riley in Essex I bet.
Financially, you're probably right. But fan anger can make a difference, we saw a Man U V Liverpool game fail to kick off for example, because of fan protests. I suspect there will be enough of them to make life very difficult.

Even then, I bet there are countless sponsors waiting to grab a chance to be part of a global brand. One goes, let the furore die off for 3 months or so, then take advantage.

Having said that, Greenwood is such a small cog in the Utd wheel, I really don't see why they shouldn't bin him.
lol what no

nobody would be willing to associate with a toxic brand its a death spiral and many sponsors of football teams need that good PR

But it wouldn't last long, it never really does. There are various other footballers who have done worse things than Greenwood still earning a career in the sport. Plymouth even made a child killer their captain!!

As I said, I'd totally be getting rid of him......but I really don't think it would hit Utd that badly if they did keep him (which I think they know which is why they haven't already got rid of him).

It's many orders of magnitude more high profile though. Both the incident itself and the the club involved. It's not some random news story buried deep down that most people never heard and based on his word vs hers, there's literal audio that everyone knows about.

I don’t really like the ‘this crime is worse’ rankings but I do think the Plymouth thing is different because it’s someone who served his time and showed remorse. No consolation to the family of course.

Greenwood has got away with his crimes, despite them being plain for all to see. Now I’m not saying anyone should be convicted on a voice note, of course, but if it was somehow fake or questionable then this would have come to light quickly. So he’s laid bare for what he is and will face no consequences. I’m not a public figure but I can’t imagine my employer would still be considering whether to retain my services if it was me - and same goes for most of us I imagine.

Look I hate United, and I hate Greenwood, but in the end his missus isn't going to testify against him, and if it came up she's likely to just say it was consensual banter she over-reacted too. It is clearly bullshit, but what actual grounds do United have to get rid of him, even paying up his contract could get a legal case going.

Blokes a ****, but he has not been found guilty of owt and isn't even being prosecuted, and tbh if sponsors drop out, Manu remay even be able to sue them, if their reason was deemed bogus, honestly I fail to see an easy resolution myself, every turn is just into another booby-trap.

The Argyle thing someone was guilty, so yeah he showed remorse big deal.

Eh I’m not saying it would sit comfortably with me but would you not allow released prisoners to do other jobs? Granted being a footballer, even in L1/2, brings its privileges but beyond that I’m not really sure it’s relevant or comparable.

hey was just an aside, it's a convo that keeps on coming up on Exeweb, as it's Plymouth and we're trust-owned so should care more about these things. We were talking about this over Jevani Brown, I was glad he'd left despite being incredible for us. Yeah allow them to do other jobs, but I won't be supporting them, decades of support will go if they support/sign an abuser. Come on man it's not just a job it's representing your community and your team that you give much of your life too.

Yeah look I don’t really disagree. Like I said I wouldn’t be comfortable. I just don’t think it’s particularly relevant to this discussion

Morally yes, but you forget the upside on the pitch. The kid was clearly a special player and his potential was huge. He was obviously been prepped to lead the line for United. In today's demented era a player of Greenwood's potential is arguably worth 80-100 million.

Obviously they should cut the contract btw.

With competent management they could have cut him already. He’s a proven goal scorer for a club that been incompetent at filling that need.
They will try and rehab him and it probably will end badly. That’s how they roll.
I’m shocked he isn’t a free agent. I thought I read they dropped his contract when this 1st broke. Obviously not.
