Other news that we've blocked Ainsley's move to Everton and told him that he won't be training with the first team.

It's a madhouse.

Ferguson said that selling Stam was the worst transfer decision he ever made, and he has a case.

I mean we sold him for a fraction of what he was worth. Maybe circumstances forced us to accept a terrible deal, but it's still a terrible deal.
Ha really? I always thought it was regarded as a pretty decent sale given how Stam had to...er... Take a prolonged holiday from football very shortly after.

Ferguson sold him because he thought he was declining as stats showed he was tackling less.

The reason he was tackling less was because his positioning had improved, so he wasn't having to commit himself to as many tackles as he did previously.

That he then sat out a drugs ban is a happy coincidence.

Dan James going to Leeds for £30m got me thinking about the last time we got a good deal on a sale. You have to go back at least 15 years to when we got 14m euro for Van Nistelrooy, which I think of as a clever sale but not everyone would agree. You could say we got a good deal on Beckham, but we missed him badly for a few years after he left. Before that it's the 90s. We must be the worst club in the world at selling players.
You've made loads of bad decisions like extending Jones to protect his value when no **** wants to sign him.

Think the problem United have with player sales is that you're really a destination club for players. There's not really many clubs you can feasibly sell top players on for a profit to, so with the odd exception like Ronaldo, when you're selling players it's because they've flopped or haven't really come up to the standard required.

Only real way for United to make a profit on players is to take cheapish punts on players like James.

Yeah. He brought in Laurent Blanc as a replacement and he was a disaster, that was the year Arsenal won the league. Ferdinand came in the year after but he had his own issues with prolonged holidays in the early days. His regular partner was Silvestre.

The defence wasn't sorted until we signed Vidic in '06. Selling Stam set us back five years, during which we only won one title.

Nahh. Real Madrid are the ultimate destination club and they regularly make good money on players. Odegaard, Varane, Kovacic, Reguilon just in the past year. They're a proper financial disasterclass and they've done better on sales in the past year than we've done in the past three decades.

The masters of sales though are Liverpool, Coutinho £142m, Ibe £15m, Brewster £20m+ and Solanke £20m. There are others but to get the fees they did for them was incredible.

Like, it's John Cross, so about a 99% chance he's talking out his ass
Ainsley posted a message on his insta this morning that was just a sadface emoji and "I just want to go somewhere I am wanted". Sounds like a pretty dire situation.

All seems bizarre, player not going to play for the club he is at, let him go. Why keep him?

He will end up back at West Brom in January probably.

United got €63m for Di Maria. Considering how bad he was that one season that's a really good sale IMO.
Yeah you could say this about Lukaku too, but both buying clubs will feel like they did well. Inter especially obvs. United’s inadequate coaching making ~everyone who plays for us get worse at football is a big part of the problem.

There were a couple of other good sales that I disqualified for being losses on disastrous signings. Chelsea gave us £16m for Veron.

The problem is they've presumably realised that unless a new RB is found he's the best they've got. Bellerin is gone and the last few games have shown (for the millionth time) that Cedric and Chambers are absolutely shithouse, not that this was news to anyone outside Arsenal. ffs
