***Official English Football Season 2021/22***

Why did he sign such a long contract?

Interesting to see what City will do, they still look very good are worthy betting favs for the league, but with Chelsea going bananas a striker wouldn't go amiss.

Haha I rather get the impression they have sold him down the river a bit here. Comes across as if he was told they were 100% committed to signing him, cajoled him into making a transfer request and going on strike, only to turn around and say "actually nah".

Kane came to City last year and told them he had an agreement for 100m, which Levy has obviously not honoured. Kane never handed in a request, didn't want to forfeit his bonuses and end his relationship with the fans. He ended his "strike" after 5 days and denied it was ever a strike.

You won't find me defending this ****ing shambles of a transfer saga from City's point of view but everything you've just posted is absolute bullshit. City didn't table an offer for ****ing Lionel Messi as a free agent because they were focussed on Kane for ****s sake.

One suspects that they might rekindle their interest in Erling Haland.
You can quote me on this in future if you like but there's more chance of me being hit by a meteorite than there is of Haaland ever pulling on a sky blue shirt. There's so many reasons why it will just never happen, especially next season.

Just for posterity, Ronaldo can **** right off too.

FIFA have written to Boris Johnson requesting that he waves quarantine rules for Premier League players travelling to Red List countries during the International break because clubs are threatening not to let them go.

I have more sympathy for FIFA than others. World Cup qualifiers are a big deal - Brazil will be missing at least 8 of their squad due to PL banning them from going to South America - La Liga have said they'll support clubs if they decide to stop players going to South America (although it seems their issue is more the int'l window being extended by 2 days - after the last round of games were postponed because European clubs wouldn't release thier players). that could mean Brazil are without 10 of their initial squad as well as many others of those who would be the first replacements.

Brazil in a great early position for qualifying in fairness but a nation like Uruguay - plenty of games to go but 1 point away from not even being in the World Cup playoffs have 7 players missing (if Spain and England both block players going to South America) - potentially more if likes of Italy take a similar stance.

I agree with the UK government sticking to their guns on this but given the UK were happily giving thousands of UEFA dignataries exemptions - I can understand why FIFA may think "lets see if we can solve a big part of this huge club v country issue by getting a similar exemption."

I am intrigued how this ends - as presumbaly this situation will only be repeated in the international breaks in October and November. I wondered to myself if the World Cup gets pushed back by a year but can imagine European clubs would be unhappy again having a mid-season break for the World Cup and then the Euros in the summer. Wonder if Qatar would be best pleased either. But I wouldn't be surprised if any nations heavily impacted by this put their feet down and postpone the games. If a nation in South America does this especially it really spices things up and puts the ball in FIFA's court - reprimand the nation or the clubs or potentially not have time to get all the qualifiers and playoffs played before the World Cup starts.

Its just a bad situation for everyone - nations being expected to play key qualifiers with weakened and at times second-string sides, but clubs expect the players they are often paying huge money to, to be available for all their games.

It's absurd that international breaks have continued since 2020. Bending over backwards to accommodate a system that needed a serious overhaul to begin with. Massive failure of bureaucracy that they're still taking place.

Newcastle making 9 changes, losing, just don't get it, if Bruce could win this, it would probably help his popularity rise above about 40%, makung those changes pretty much acknowledges he is just worried about staying out of the relegation places, none of this helps him.

Just make about 5 changes, it's reasonable you'd probably win and give the home fans something to shout about.

I don’t think there’s a satisfactory answer that doesn’t either stop club or international football.

like, if you look at cricket. There’s so much process behind it. You can’t do that with footballers who are flying back into their clubs after a week.

When the average person can’t go on holiday, or worse visit family overseas etc, you have to be very careful about how you go about it.

There’s nothing actually wrong with the International breaks. Most people who want them done away with only want that because the lack of top flight football on TV spoils their weekend.
