Funny how these things go. A few years ago I despised the play-offs. The final defeat to Forest green notwithstanding I have really enjoyed our three recent outings. The semis at Aldershot in 2017 were just unreal, everyone going there thinking we'd bottle it and we just battered them. The drama the following year against Boreham Wood. The euphoria at Forest Green away. Connor Jennings in the 119th minute

There really is nothing quite like them. Horrible, horrible things to lose and the tension is IMHO like nothing else in football because there is so much on the line. But I've never got over 93/94/95/05 either so completely relate to grecian.

And I never would have got over 2017 if we hadn't put it right so now I just look back at the semis from that year, the first ones I personally ever saw us win, and think, wow that was magic.

Football eh.

I try to have a certain perspective at times, in the end if most ended in naught, the semis have always been great matches, and all had me screaming for joy. Though 3 out of 4 final losses in the last 4 seasons, has dampened my enthusiasm somewhat, and we come into this one in hideous form, and though I want in the playoffs badly still, as in the end you kinda have to, (unlike some City fans) I can see the advantages of having a break and prepping for next season with, for once a very competitive budget. It's been a long stretch of almost continuous play, our pitch is ****, and our players look knackered.

So I'm oddly sanguine about the next 2 matches, mind you that's Covid football for you.

That is pretty much how I feel. Every season we get 'Brentford really have to go up this season' but it is just not true, there is no reason why we won't keep giving ourselves good chances of promotion. Last year even without fans at the end it was really intense whereas this year was clear for a while that it was going to be play-offs. Going up in a year or two and able to go to games would be a lot more satisfying.

Obviously having said all that I will be desperate for us not to lose another final...

Haha I was genuinely going to ask if you guys had been in the playoffs every year since Warburton took you there before joining us.
We actually had a nice run of upper mid-table finishes after that season.

This will be the 10th time in total though and no we have never won one.

That Warburton one was probably the least bad as we had such a fun season and just snuck in. Usually they come after some horrible failure to get promoted on the last day of the season.

Assuming no miracles in the next two games it'll be our 10th go too. Three wins so far though.

Where I am different to grecian is I am desperate to go up this season. Don't get me wrong if we don't I suspect we will still be competitive next year but given the way we were placed in this division it just feels right if we return before it starts again properly. Because if you think I'm bitter now...

I’m realising again how unspectacular the City team looks on paper. It’s actually really impressive that they were understandable favourites here with good but not amazing guys like Bernardo and Mahrez where PSG have Neymar and Mbappe.

Are their regular players better than PSG? It is hard to say I guess because we see so much more of City, every season there are at least one or two PSG players that I don't know at all.

Di Maria is so so good.

I don’t really know either. I have no reason to think Verratti isn’t still excellent when fit. Marquinhos is clearly very good too, although if they had better defenders he might be playing midfield.

They’ve had some really unimpressive performances this season though. Hard to know what you’re gonna get.

Game of two halves, Brian.

Pep doesn't strike one as the teacup throwing type, but that was quite the turnaround.

Foden's effort aside Citeh really weren't at the races at all first half.

BT are apparently in talks over the future of the BT Sport channel. Some stories use words like investors and others use the term offload.
Probably because they paid unsustainable amounts of cash to nick the European football from Sky.

They should hold champions league games at 1-2 pm GMT. Viewership will explode in India and China.

Wouldn't surprise me, BT's football coverage has gone downhill since the channel launched. They've managed to lose all their Scottish football coverage, Serie A and Liga NOS, and they've never really broken Sky's stranglehold on Premier League rights.
