My interest in football was at its peak between 2006-08, so I really loved the WC '06 and Euro '08. WC '10 was a terribly drab affair and my interest kind of steadily slowed down after that point.

All you poor saps who can't remember Italia 90... Milla dancing, Goalkeepers playing on the halfway line. Mullets.

What a time

I remember '90. Carlos Valderrama was my favorite player because of his hair. Only saw bits and pieces because I don't think the whole thing was shown in India, but the nostalgia alone makes it great.

Higuita trying to dribble up the pitch and getting his pocket picked. Pretty sure an Argy keeper got a booking on the halfway line too. I need to go back and watch it again. It just seemed chaos.

Also a completely horrid tournament for a 7 year old to get into watching England play in. The only thing I wasn't mis-sold was the penalty taking.

Italia 90 is another shite tournament that's been overly romanticised.

It was so shite that it forced a rule change ffs.

I don't think I watched much, if any, of USA '94 at all. Terrible timezone for us, plus Maradona getting banned and Argentina going out early made me lose interest quickly.

England v Portugal for me today. The first game that of the tournament that I can actually remember.

My first major tournament was USA 1994. Remember drawing up all the flags of the teams involved. Late night games & bowl stadiums etc

I feel like I missed out Italia 90 and even Euro 92 from a romantic point of view for the under-dogs but seen the movies and loved every bit of them.

On the subject of goalkeepers, I really enjoyed Filip De Wilde's Euro 2000 performances. Some superb saves mixed with some excellent gaffes, complete with comedy red card.

I'm putting this on tonight if anyone else wants to pass the time by getting into a heated argument about football 20 years ago.

So are you suggesting that I'm too young or that I'm too senile to remember Italia 1990?

There's a good piece in the Guardian about it actually. Along the lines of it being very under-rated. I'm more with Furball tbh. And it was your first WC, so you're too biased anyway.
