My only reason for disliking Liverpool other than being our direct rival and bogey side at the current time is that their Twitter fan base is absolutely rotten. The worst fan base of anything (other than k-pop) I've ever interacted with. So much worse than any other footballing side I've come across. Other than that, they're alright. Will be nauseating few months but once the season starts again it's a new day.

Trying to keep up with a team that's on track to rack up well over 100 points has got to take its toll at some point. They strained every sinew to hold Liverpool off last season. Guardiola's been successful overall at City but many people will bring up the old cliches like "No Plan B", "can't do it outside Barcelona/Messi", "only takes already dominant teams and wins leagues" when he's literally proved all of those wrong.

Per Ornstein:

With Arsenal in contention for a top-four finish and the Europa League final — raising hopes of Champions League qualification — Emery wanted to sign Harry Maguire to bolster his defence, Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey to reinforce central midfield and Wilfried Zaha on the wing.

Emery and his staff were huge admirers of Maguire’s ability to defend and play out from the back and knew Leicester would sell at the right price, but a poor end to the campaign meant Arsenal stood no chance and it was a straight fight between Manchester United and Manchester City. Partey was apparently desperate for a move to the Emirates Stadium, however a €50 million release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract was too expensive for Arsenal because they were committing the bulk of their resources to bringing in a wide player.

Particularly impressed by his performances against Arsenal, Emery identified Zaha in the knowledge that the Crystal Palace attacker needed no time to adapt to the Premier League, but the club instead opted for Lille’s Nicolas Pepe, predominantly because of his younger age.

Oh man.

He also says:

KSE via Josh Kroenke is planning to increase its presence, involvement and investment

Which I'm rather sceptical about

In any case, Guardiola's surely being a bit over-dramatic here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50707809

Like, yeah his team has issues with defence at the moment, but he still has a midfield and attacking options to die for. I just don't see their situation in as stark terms as he seems to with those comments.
He's saying it in his usual manic way but he's right IMO. Who are the midfield options to die for other than de Bruyne? Ferna really showing his age (and his recent workload) this season, David Silva still great but definitely fading, Sane's injury has moved Bernardo to the wings so he's not really played in midfield, Rodri has been disappointing but new signings often take their time, Gundogan is very average at best and awful at worst. Then in terms of forwards Sterling is the only forward player who's played well at all this season. Jesus looks bang average and Bernardo has really fallen off.

It's not like they're a bad squad but they're one that's really starting to show the toll it takes to compete in 4 competitions for multiple years. Also, they desperately need to sign a striker. I'd try and sign one even over a defender probably. Jesus is not it.

I'd bite your hand off for Jesus. Also for Mahrez, who doesn't warrant a mention.

Obviously that says more about the state of United than it contradicts your general point. But I think I'd always take a 22yo with 3 years of regular games at one of the best clubs in the world. Maybe even more so if they're going through an underwhelming spell, because that's when you get them on the cheap. Players with that much experience at a young age explode into genuine superstars a lot.

I wouldn't sell Jesus, I still rate him. I just don't think he's up to starting 40+ games a season yet, which he will need to do soon because Aguero is one foot out the door IMO.

Mahrez is a very good player that's still finding his way in a side that has the ball dinking around in midfield for 75% of the game. I'm still mad about Anfield last year if I'm honest but he's getting there. That said it doesn't seem like Pep thinks he's up to it.

@GuillemBalague inform us that in addition to Marcelino, Arsenal are considering Allegri, Robert Moreno, Arteta or Patrick vieira. Everton also has Marcelino and Unai Emery on his agenda. Decisions should be made this week.

The new names that are coming out get more underwhelming by the day. The scenes if we appoint Roberto Moreno, haha.

That ajax Valencia game should be used as an example to make a case for the game clock being stopped for interruptions. Shambles from the ref.

European refs are absolutely awful for adding time on. They absolutely never account for stoppages within stoppage time itself for unknown reasons.
