Wilshere is really overrated and really underrated. Most of the comments I see about him either say he's England's best midfielder by miles or that he's crap and shouldn't be near the squad. Reality is he's somewhere in between. Not sure he has the legs to be a consistent starter in an international tournament but he'd be a better option to have on the bench if we're 1-0 down in the last 16 than most of the other squad players they've picked.

As much as I don't rate Wilshere all that highly, I'm curious as to who the 4 or 5 midfielders Southgate's picked are that he thinks are better (haven't actually checked out the squad, all I've seen are the headlines as to who's not made it)

I think they like having a bit of a gap so that the Europa doesn't get completely overshadowed by the Champions League.

Chris Waddle was massively into pub bore mode on 5 Live this morning. Fair enough if someone thinks that Shelvey should have gone, I really don't have a strong preference either way. But to listen to Waddle you'd think it was an outrageous call and Shelvey is some sort of world class performer, which I'm pretty sure he isn't. Also banging on about how Sessignon should have been picked for what he's done in the Championship this season. Again, maybe a point for discussion, but CW was treating his omission as a personal affront. I suppose none of this should come as a surprise, but he just came across as an arrogant dick at a time when I was trying to enjoy my breakfast.
