Good mates with Benik Afobe apparently. Anyway, IMO, on the whole it is probably one of the better choices he could have made. Serie A is an absolute basket case of a league, and the style of play over there would not suit the kind of player he is supposed to be at all.
Serie A is ****ing quality. Rejecting AC Milan to go to Bournemouth is ****ing stupid.

Glad it's not just me who can't understand it.

Apparently Eddie Howe was a huge factor, which I can understand. Nonetheless, AC Milan...

Note to those of you living in the 1990s: Milan have failed to qualify for Europe in the last three seasons despite having commercial opportunities dwarfing nine tenths of the league

Yeah, what Vimes said.

Anyway, footballing reasons aside, it's also worth noting that Wilshere has a number of young children and is separated from the mother of said children. I imagine this may have impacted upon his decision fairly significantly.

Haven't seen Bournemouth qualify for Europe either, so unless Wiltshire is being employed as an accountant, the commercial opportunities don't really mean anything, and the footballing decision is the factor. With GIMH and Furball here.

Isn't this the point that Vimes is making though? (i.e. that a move to Milan for footballing reasons just isn't that attractive).

Yup, it seems to be a place where Berlusconi pays you lots of money for not being very good at football.

Hamburger SV is also a "bigger club" than Bournemouth, but as a player wanting football glory you wouldn't want to go near that either. And revering clubs because of their history is what will lead us to the permanent one-club dystopia.

Doesn't have to move house and his best mate is already there. Not hard to see why he has chosen Bournemouth.

He doesn't look the type who is willing to embrace a different culture in Milan.

Bournemouth have a fanbase about the same size as ours ffs. Plus what is it with Englishmen being scared to play abroad.

All that aside, forget recent history, AC belong in a list with the likes of Real, Barca, Man U, Liverpool, Juve, Inter, Bayern, Ajax. True European elite.

I hate big clubs as a rule, and good on Bournemouth for pulling this off. But to me it's a poor move.

Credibility level of post so low.... Struggling to...get under it.

I can see your point with the rest even if I disagree, but not this bit.

The present matters, but history does too.

If it was Leicester or AC - logic speaks for itself. But there's no footballing glory to be had at Bournemouth this year for Jack. And as fans, club's history is a massive thing. It's why we laugh at Chelsea and chide MK Dons, it's why 1938 was a great year, it's why Preston and Huddersfield are still exciting fixtures for small clubs, it's why Burton fans are salivating about playing Villa and Leeds. It doesn't lead us down any one club dystopia path, it just enriches what we have and inspires us in one way or another.

Why not? I put it to you that there was no glory to be had for Ian Goodison playing at Prenton Park.

Yeah, okay poorly phrased. I meant it in relation to Milan not being somewhere to go for glory. If that's a reason not to go there then it stands to reason that Bournemouth isn't a good move either.
