Agree with Uppercut. Wenger has been woeful this season. The Arsenal fans are ecstatic with this win. Well, you could have been playing that way for ****ing years, ****s.
We kind of have. It's just that people like to create a narrative based off a couple of games.

Dayum we were good this morning.
Only watched the first half but your general play was brilliant. Just that killer instinct up front lacking, which Sturridge should give you.

Is Balotelli injured or is Rodgers just fed up with him?

Dunno. There's been a few performances like that in the past few years, but you've played too open and been overrun in big games a lot more often too.

I'm also getting tired of this "narrative" ****. It's as if football bloggers have discovered post-structuralism 70 years after everyone else and now everything looks like a nail.

The only thing I think we've been really guilty of is arguably fullbacks trying to attack too much. Against Liverpool and Chelsea they pressed us really effectively and we were awful at building play and constantly lost the ball with just the centre backs and DM covering. They still kind of did that on Sunday though and Monreal effectively created the best chance of the game by winning a penalty. The difference was we never really lost the ball in deep areas this time because Cazorla was on a completely different level. It's also worth remember that against Liverpool last year we conceded twice in the first five minutes from set pieces, so of course our open play was going to be a bit more expansive. I actually thought Sunday was quite similar to the game at Stamford Bridge this season ftr, only that time we made the defensive errors instead.

Also, I get why people complaining about "narratives" can be annoying. But they're definitely a thing and kind of frustrating. My point regarding this one is that Arsenal won more premier league points than anyone else in 2013 with Giroud and Podolski as their main striking options while others had RVP, Rooney, Aguero, Dzeko, Suarez, Sturridge, etc. How do people think we did that? They basically spent all year getting 1-0, 2-0 and 2-1 wins and even got clean sheets at Bayern and Dortmund and at home v Liverpool, Chelsea, Napoli etc. Yet a few games in 2014 and people have reverted back to 2011 cliches and actually try to imply that we had defensive issues that needed sorting in the transfer market in 2012 and 2013. Arsenal have needed a centre back for years now apparently. Even when we had a fit Koscielny and Mertesacker was performing consistently. Arsenal haven't had a DM since Gilberto. Even when Arteta was our best player. Etc.

FTR, I'm probably just as guilty as anyone of narratives. When I say narrative it's not meant to be some holier than thou thing. They're just less mainstream.

The most annoying narratives are the ones perpetuated by idiots like Michael Owen, that are not only tedious, but factually void. Was thinking the other day about how he wrote a bunch of articles a while ago, pining for the days when the "hardman" Petit used to play in front of Sol Campbell.

Berk.

Owen's an absolute *******. Knows absolutely **** all about the game, you can see why his career went down the toilet after his hamstrings gave up because he's utterly dead behind the eyes.

Lol. Missed overlapping by an entire season. Jesus.

Petit was nails tho. Despite the girly hair.

Nearly as hateful he ended up with yer Chavs as it is with Cesc. Exactly the same route too.

Chavs weren't as hateable back then

It's just a story, or a theory. I think "narrative" was used initially in sociology because it sounded patronising to say stuff like "yeah the whole tribe had bought into this 'lost homeland' story". Now I think narrative sounds even more patronising. There's an added layer of pretentiousness.
