I'm in a tiny, tiny minority among United fans but I reckon we dodged a bullet there. I don't see the point at all in paying £20m for a young player who will definitely want to leave when he's at his peak. Look at what happened to Arsenal after Fabregas left.

It's just short-sighted, and if you're going to make a short-sighted transfer you might as well sign a proven performer at their peak.

Their level of performance stayed more or less exactly the same...

Worked alright with Cristiano.

Did it? I definitely remember Arsenal challenging for titles before he left. Although maybe they fell away so badly towards the end of a lot of those seasons that their final league position was indeed more or less the same.

Yeah, I think that's basically it. There were times when Arsenal looked like contenders, particularly the Eduardo leg break year, but they fell away so badly that by the end of the season they were well out of it.

Arsenal managed to get more points in this season just finished, for instance, than in 4 of the 7 seasons Cesc was an Arsenal player, and in terms of league position there's obviously been no change in consistency.

In the past hour Mark Ogden of the Torygraph, Neil Custis of The Sun and Guillem Balague of Sky Sports have all confirmed that United have bid 30 million Euros for Fabregas.

Interesting.

Yeah it is. I would be amazed if Barca were willing to let him go after already selling Thiago.

Yeah, my thoughts as well. I just can't see it - he doesn't seem to want to leave anyway, and surely Barca won't let two top class midfielders go in the same window? Or, as F365 have put it:

"Manchester United have apparently made a bid that won't be enough for a player who won't want to come to a club that won't want to sell."

Which sums it up pretty well IMO.

Would be interesting if Barca did accept a bid of £25m. As then they'd have to accept one from Arsenal for £12.5m.

You seem to have confused Cesc with Vieira.

So apparently United have rejected 10 million plus Mata or Luiz for Rooney. I would take the money and Mata in an instant if I was United.

Certainly seems to show, what the rumours have been suggesting, that Mourinho does not really want Luiz and Mata.

Yeah, since Mata's value is probably on a par with Rooney's, if not greater, I think they would be foolish not to take that. Especially seeing as Rooney seems to want out.

Exaclty. Would also argue that Mata just a better player, at least over the last season.

Assume that United have rejected because they just don't want to sell Rooney to a rival, without actually looking at the deal which I would say hugely favours them. Mata was Chelsea's best player last season by a distance, Rooney was certainly not United's.

They probably just don't really want Mata. They play with wingers and strikers that can score from crosses and if they do want a little technical player between the lines they already have Kagawa.

If true it's clearly a mistake, really don't think it's true though. Part-exchange rumours are almost exclusively bull.
