Oh, I've been saying this for a while, but in the end the hilarity of Real and Barca winning nothing still edges me to Atletico, despite Simeone being a ****, them being built on debt, and playing a pretty negative counter-attacking style.

Anyway whatever, I want pens now, pens are fun if you are a neutral.
Not sure how their debt is relevant. They've been profit making in recent years, which is why people are getting behind them.

No neutrals old enough to remember what Simeone did in 1998, anyway.
I remember it, and couldn't give a ****, Beckhaam petulantly kicked out his leg, and any England player would have done the same, and if they didn't I'd have asked why.

Yeah I mean Simeone basically did something that is totally standard anyway. Seems a pretty classic case of because he did it against your team you hate him when if he had done it against anyone else you wouldn't really care. I highly doubt any of the rest of the world see him as some massive villain. Because he's not.

EDIT: To clarify he might be a **** but certainly not because of what he did against Ingerlund 15 years ago.

so...

So the picture is complete. In 1966, Austria won the Eurovision, Atletico won La Liga and Real won the European Cup. And then....

the hosts win the World Cup probably

I remember the furore at the time, the Tab press went stupidly for Beckham the day after, what he did was silly but they tried to make him a national pariah. Then they realised that they were a bit off, so they switched their hate to Simeone, after all he was called Diego like a bloke 12 years before.

In the end Beckham was young and stupid, and Simeone exploited it, no reason for hate for either TBH.

Still much more annoyed with the Campbell goal not standing, Shearer went up with the 'keeper but there was no contact except the contact initiated by the goalkeeper.

Amazed that the English press don't get mad about proper things like that disallowed goal or the Astle one against Germany. Maybe because they need forn enemies like Maradonna, Simeone or Koeman, rather than the officials who are actually at fault.

There was probably some other reason to laugh at Liverpool though. There usually is. I get a feeling that next season will be "their year" btw.

Actually finding it hard to really get behind Atletico. Dislike Real enormously, and enjoy how someone has really stuck it to them and Barca over the last year or so, what they have achieved is incredible. But apart from the odd few players like Courtois, Villa and Costa I just really don't like them that much. And Simeone just looks like a spiv.
Simeone is great.

One of things I actually like most about Atletico is they are not the lovable underdog (like Dortmund in the final last year), they are just a ridiculously well put together side that are really good at winning, and that includes being cynical at times, are a side that refuse to be patronised.

Wanted Atletico to win of course but I don't actually dislike Real all that much now Mourinho is not in charge. Modric and Isco are two players I really like, got nothing against Bale and I can't help but kind of like Ronaldo these days.

I get a strong feeling that this was their one real chance at a title challenge and the only way they'll play champions league in 15/16 is as holders.
