Tough selection for Moyes tonight, so many options. I think it'll have to be Welbeck on the left wing to deal with Lahm, so that leaves Rooney on his own up front. Young's played much better than Valencia on the right this year so he'll hopefully get the nod there.

Giggs and Carrick will surely be the double pivot so it's a choice between Fellaini and Kagawa in the most advanced midfield role. I'd be fine with either but probably leaning towards Fellaini. We'll get much more out of him defensively and Bayern's press will force us to be quite direct, which plays to his strengths a bit more. The only concern is that the ref won't appreciate his physicality and he'll get sent off.

Moyes will probably pull another rabbit out of the hat like playing Cleverley on the wing.

With Van Persie out and Mata cup tied it surely has to be known Bayern Munich destroyer Shinji Kagawa in the hole today?

He might just play Young and Valencia on the wings and Rooney+Welbeck up front. Which isn't a huge problem tactically but means playing both prank-wingers at the same time.

Valencia isn't the brick ****house he was at his peak but defensive duties are still definitely his stronger suit. Sometimes he seems to just decide he's playing as an extra right-back. Young has a reputation as lazy but it's outdated, for United he's become painfully functional.

Kagawa out wide would be the real concern but Moyes won't do it for exactly that reason. Say what you like about him but he does always make sure we don't lose our rigid defensive shape whilst conceding painfully simple goals from set pieces.

That was quite good, all things considered. Welbeck though, fs. If he'd even hit the chip properly he'd have scored.

Always think that unless you're very very good, which Welbeck isn't, then in those situations where you have tons of time to think about it and what might go wrong, the best bet is just put your foot through it. Still taking aim obviously as opposed to randomly blasting it, but I reckon that has the highest percentage of goals versus misses as opposed to any other option.

Yeah probably. Welbeck doesn't have the best pure shot though, might well have still missed.

Annoying thing is that he leathered it into the net for the one at the start that was given as a foul.

This is really reminding me of the Chelsea v Barcelona first leg, apart from Barca created a lot more chances that night.

Still expecting Bayern to make it 1-1 at the very east though.

Well in all honesty on the play tonight that was deserved. Cracking header too. Still can't see them not going through though. They're just too good.
