Certainly weren't going to crack it first time leaving some of your best players out in what was the deciding game and then bringing substitutes on so late they can barely make an impact.
Yeah I think Mancini missed a trick in this one. He must be worried about our upcoming fixture list. Aguero on the bench I can understand because he's been worried by a muscle injury in his leg, but leaving out Micah (arguably our best player this season) for Zabaleta, especially against a team with the lightning pace of Napoli, is inexcusable. Kolarov over Clichy is another one, he left out our two fastest (and best, funnily enough) wing-backs for a game against a team with frightening pace on the break.
Though it's his first really large blunder for the season so I guess it's not really too much of a worry. As long as he keeps them out of the league then I'm happy haha. I'll care about winning the Champions League in ten years time, for now, I'm just happy to see us in it.
I'm sure there will be reasons why he's gone with this team that we are not privvy to. Certainly think he'll have looked at Zaba doing a better defensive job than Micah, his positional sense and speed in reacting to situations opening up are a couple of reasons why he will have thought Zaba would play a more effective role. Yes he's not as good going forward, but with Silva, Balotelli, Dzeko, Milner and Yaya, he probably thought we would create enough opportunities, along with Kolarov and his delivery into the box with his left peg.
Clichy I think should be playing in almost all the games as he's been really impressive for us imo. Maybe with Kolarov's experience of playing in Italy against Serie A clubs, the fact he wouldn't be directly up against an out and out winger, and would be able to get forward and make some telling contributions, I don't know. I'm sure there are factors that us regular football supporters would not even recognise, as to why Mancini made the selections he did.
Our deliveries into the box were not great last night, Dzeko and Balotelli did not enjoy their best night's, and credit to Napoli's front three who created us problems for much of the night again.
Big game on Sunday ahead, will be a real test after this disappointment, and a tough game in store at Anfield, no doubt.
