I don't think this makes much of a difference to whether Di Matteo should get the job next season or not. He's not a better coach than he would have been if Robben had scored his penalty. Or if Messi had scored his.

You could say that about a lot of things tbf. United winning that Cup replay on 89-90 didn't make whiskey breath any better either. Managers/coaches at top clubs will be judged on results and getting rid of a guy who won the only two trophies he could for the club would be very unusual. At any club other than Chelsea. I don't think they'll keep him on but he'll get a big job somewhere. Wouldn't be surprised if Liverpool were monitoring the situation closely.

Liverpool qualify for the Europa League as FA Cup runners-up.
Spurs qualify based on league position.
Newcastle get the place that originally went to Liverpool for winning the League Cup.
