For me the problem isn't players getting sent off for **** tackles - it's any sort of slide tackle being ruled as dangerous.

In our last 2 games, Rangers have had 3 players booked for sliding in to win a loose ball. Not one of them was remotely close to being dangerous.

I don't agree with the theory Halsey was stating, that the tackle should be adjudged on potential consequences even if the tackler wins the ball cleanly. All tackles are dangerous if mistimed really, timing them right is as important a quality for some players as timing shots is for others.

I'm not saying referees don't do that, but that they shouldn't, just FTR. And obviously there's a line but common sense needs to apply. I don't think there was anything reckless about Kompany's tackle, and it was honestly nothing to do with it being against Man U.

Didn't see Johnson's as I switched off at half-time.

BNTW how **** were City first half, it was like when they used to be in the same division as us, passes going astray all over the show.

True, but I disagree. Sure, a player can wind up with a serious injury from a completely innocuous challenge, but a two footed over the ball lunge is inherently more dangerous and needs to be stamped out of the game.

It's like saying "speeding in a car is fine because I've done it loads of times and never crashed."

Obviously all tackles have some element of danger to them, and that's unavoidable and expected. However tackles with a needlessly high level of danger to them should be stamped out. Say, hypothetically speaking, a player goes in two footed which carries a 2% chance of breaking someone's leg. He could just have easily gone in one footed which carries a 0.2% chance of breaking said player's leg. Obviously I've just pulled those numbers out of thin air for argument's sake but it's fairly clear to me that the tackle with the needlessly high level of danger to it should be stamped out.

Same goes in reverse, just because a tackle ended up in a bad injury doesn't necessarily mean it was a bad tackle, it might just have been unlucky.

I don't outright disagree with the posts above, it's more just a case that I think referees need to apply more common sense in determining what tackles are dangerous. I don't think they should be judged on consequences alone but at the same time I don't believe all tackles of a certain type should be deemed red card offences because certain tackles of this nature can be dangerous, if that makes sense.

So rather than analogising it with speeding being okay, it's more like I'm saying we shouldn't ban drivers from going round corners because sometimes drivers don't slow down when they do this, if that makes sense

Stevie signing on.

Excited for the round of Prem this weekend. Not elated to playing Stoke, mind. Looking forward to seeing how QPR start under their new management.

Awesome Gerrards signed a long term deal, although it was never in doubt, its confirmed the Scouse are not winning a title for the forseeable future

Anyone else beginning to think that Spurs could actually win this?
Yes, I ****ing hope so. So good that we don't have anyone taking part in the African Nations. I wish that the Manchester clubs were still in the CL, it would help us even more.

Love our midfield at the moment, United would kill to have a midfield as potent as ours.
