Guus Hiddink (outside of managing Russia) and Frank Rijkaard perhaps?
Hiddink is staying on as an advisor for Chelsea isn't he? He's too old imo to be a long term solution anyway. Rijkaard is an excellent manager but would you fire Arsene Wenger just to get him here? Personally, I wouldn't.

Well I do believe that there are players out there who would be substantial upgrades on the likes of Song, Denilson, Diaby, Silvestre, Eboue and Senderos and who wouldn't cost a King's ransom.

Eduardo and Sagna being prime examples.
True, but just because a player doesn't cost a fortune in the grand scheme of things doesn't mean he's not still overpriced. Hangeland being an obvious example. He's good, but not good enough to pay over the odds for.

I believe he does too, just don't believe the method he has taken will do it for us. I can definitely admire the stance though, at least we have a club who have an approach and principles and are willing to stick to it. I think we have handcuffed ourselves by being too rigid in our philosophy and not willing to even spend on one or two big signings here and there when we really need them.

Nobody is asking for us to replicate a certain Oligarch doped club's behaviour it's just a tad frustrating seeing us stand still or go backwards every year when the club have the resources to improve themselves.
Wenger's playing the long term game, obv. The fact that he is means he sees a future for himself at the club beyond the immediate future, which I for one am pleased about. If he was planning on going he'd have nothing to lose in having one final hurrah, but I can see why he'd be reluctant to mortgage his and the club's future on a couple of overpriced players.

I think Wenger's on record as saying that the board would give him the money if he thought a player was worth £30m even before we punted Adebayor & Toure. If he doesn't think anyone's worth it then that's fair enough. Competing with the likes of Citeh & Real Madrid for already overpriced players is only going to further inflate the market.

I genuinely believe Arsene has the club's best interests at heart and if that invloves not spending fortunes on medicore players in the current climate then so be it.
Yeah, once again I feel the same way, frustrating as it is on occasion.

The problem with his utopian idea that you can build a team organically and foster a love for the club etc etc is that modern footballers are such greedy ****s that they'll bugger off as soon as another big club flashes some money and possibly a shorter wait for silverware.

Every time we look to kick on, someone decides to chase greener pastures and instead of strengthening the squad we're always battling to get the team back to the same level. Adebayor and Kolo did it this season, Diarra, Hleb and Flamini last season, I wonder who it'll be next season.

Personally don't see how a club which makes as much revenue and profits and has something like 65 million quid in cash reserves sitting there is reluctant to something like 15 million to bring in a very good player. Especially after selling 40 million worth of players recently don't believe we'd be mortgaging away our future by buying one or two guys.

Btw, there's a full transcript of the interview he gave today here which says a lot about why I love the guy so much. A fantastic judge of what he's about and why he is such a great man to have running the club.

Yeah I reckon Arse should ditch Wenger, of course you should be beating teams with bigger resources then you, it makes sense. After all being in the Champions League guarantees you should have success, just look at how well Leeds and Newcastle have done since they started chasing the big clubs with unrealistic expectations. Pompey have even spent money they can't afford and won a cup doing it, and they're in a great financial state because of it.

Clearly it's all Gravy if you get rid of stability and sensible leadership. Go for it:)

What English talent has Wenger screwed? Not like Bentley, Pennant et cetera have made him look like an idiot...

Awta, Bentley's 40 yard goal last season against Arsenal being the only time the failed English talent has got close to embarassing Wenger and that was a fluke.

I suppose you could say Upson, but I've never rated him much. Bentley and Pennant are **** and gits to boot.

Ashley Cole actually screwed Arsenal and he's answered Englands left-back problem and hopefully Wilshire can solve other problems, we'll see.

Also reasonably sure Wenger could of made much more money if he'd gone to Real Madrid and been a mercenary with other clubs.

English talent is stupidly overpriced and only Chelsea or Manure can generally afford them.

Would help if he actually ever bought English talent tbf.
Not like he's needed to tbh, and besides, his record with English signings have been fairly mediocre/poor, Pennant, Upson, Jeffers and Wright never really looked like top drawer signings despite a lot of initial promise.
