Blessing in disguise? Won't really know until May.
Will be of some benefit if it forces Wenger to dive into his pocket for a keeper in either this window or the next.

Think it will be a real help in the title race, but as you say will not really know until May although to be honest I think when they say that Arsenal need a trophy they mean the Leage and Champions league and not the cup.

Seriously though, he may be playing at a lower level but Szczesny is so much better than Fabianksi, think he made a little mistake yesterday but think that was the first one, whenever I have seen him play for us he has been fantastic.

Think it probably is to be honest, just a shame that more first team players didn't get a rest today. I'm not overly bothered by the result at all, nor in fact the performance from the majority of the players involved. Thought most of the youngsters put in a good performance and will benefit from the experience, got Sol some match fitness and I thought he looked quite good for the majority as well. Fabianski and Silvestre though, so poor. I think Fabianski is probably the poorest goalkeeper I have ever seen represent Arsenal, he was terrible in pretty much all regards, hopefully that's the last we will see of him for the rest of the season.

Didn't cover himself in much glory for the second goal and Fuller gave him a hard time. Wasn't the worst Arsenal player on the pitch by any means but he was poor.

Think one moment over the course of an entire match is fair enough for your first game at that level for a considerable length of time.
Considering when he wasn't there, his partner today, Silvestre was 3rd choice centerback.... *shudder*

Given he hasn't played truly competitive match for a long time and even longer since he's played a match at this level I didn't think he was that bad. Probably was at fault for the second goal, but Fabianski should have done a hell of a lot better and Denilson should have closed the cross down in the first place so it was by no means solely his fault. He showed on a few occasions that he still has what it takes to put in a shift, and though like you say, wasn't fantastic, seeing him in the defence fills me with a lot more confidence than any of our current alternatives to the usual first choice pairing.

Think you have to give credit to the quality of the cross for Stoke's second. Unless Sol was 7' there's no way he could reach it. Was literally right on Fuller's head. If you were being hyper-critical he perhaps should've been tighter on the man, but really Sidibe shouldn't have got a ball in anyway.

Don't believe that. It's fine in theory (although I still don't really buy it) but in practice teams very, very rarely improve after crashing out of the CL or cup.
Well yeah, before today in our last 9 games we'd had 7 wins and 2 draws so it would've been nice to continue that. Out of the starting XI today only Fabregas is likely to feature in the comning weeks in our starting XI and I don't think it's going to effect him too much.

Arsenal seem to have done alright since "crashing" out of the Carling Cup tbh.
There is that as well. :p

Our cup teams and our league side are often entirely different so I don't see us having a "cup hangover".

S****horpe with some great chances there.

Are you trying to make a real argument or just messing about? Because if you are, the implication is that Arsenal wouldn't have done as well in the league had their reserve team managed to put a Carling Cup run together, and I can't imagine you really believe that.

Because the XI we started with today was packed full of first teamers?

More or less what I was thinking tbh. The run itself is pretty irrelevant, but going out of the cup means X amount of games and replays or whatever that the real first team won't have to play, and therefore remain fitter for the duration of the season. So many times have Arsenal been in the latter stages of pretty much every competition going only to fail to win any of them, not having to concentrate on 4 seperate fronts should be beneficial, imo anyway.

Supporting my argument that going out of the cup makes SFA difference to your league form, right? :p

Unless there's been some crossed wires here..

I wasn't suggesting that going out today would directly improve our league form, just that over the course of the season not having to play in the FA Cup may be of some benefit, even if we don't start with a bunch of first team players I'm sure that Cesc played 90 more minutes than Wenger would've ideally liked today and then Eduardo and Arshavin played 25 or so.
Also the fact we're out of the cup means it's less games where our players can seemingly injure themselves, there seems to be a new player on the end of the list after every game.

I don't see how going out today is going to have a negative effect at all, though it could be a blessing in disguise as I originally stated.
