The whole squad is filled with in and out semi-decent players like that. Lucas, Agger, Aurelio and even Johnson himself fall into this category. Ryan Babel is someone who I thought would do a lot better than he has also, his failure to shine has been quite perculiar, but more often than not is only used as an impact sub and has become nothing more than a squad player.

Pretty sick of the talk continuing of Liverpool's Title Chances. With our squad, a Top Six finish would be fantastic.
The squad is really not much worse than last season, Liverpool only lost a couple of players, while I agree that they not have a good enough squad to win the league it is still good enough for a top 4 and top 6 should be absolute minimum.

Arbeloa was solid defensively, Johnson isn't, Liverpool were solid defensively, now they aren't, good piece of business there.
We haven't conceded goals because of Johnson being inferior defensively. Our goals against have mainly been set-pieces of which our centre-backs have been most culpable. Little to do with Johnson.

Babel is crap
This.

He would be more than a squad player if he actually performed consistently and scored goals that were actually vital. He gives the ball away too much, tries too much and generally is worse for us than our opposition. At times, he can look like the next Henry, at other times you wonder if he has a brain.

It's been a collaboration of errors between everyone playing across the defence in my opinion. Yes, the centre backs have been the most culpable, but there have been several incidents which Johnson has performed poorly in and lead to goals, though less so recently.

How long do people think Rafa is going to last? I am sure they wil pick up at some point but it is going to be a fight for the top 4, then even it he does finish 4'th is that really good enough? I expect this to be his last season but will he get to the end of it?

Barring a really terrible run of results I think he will last the duration. If Liverpool can hang around the 4th-5th places then I don't think the board would be stupid enough to axe him, especially as all they can realistically aim for is 4th place anyway, getting rid of him in such circumstances would be a massive risk. I think anything significantly less than this would see his head on the block, though I can't see Liverpool failing that badly. If he is to go however, I imagine Torres will not be far behind.

If they fail to make top four only the CL would save him, I reckon. In fact, if it looks like Citeh (or Villa or Spurts) are going to displace them he mightn't make the season out.

Big game next weekend.

Yeah think this Johnson can't defend has gone a little overboard it seems to get mentioned every time Liverpool or England concede weather he is at fault or not.

Anyway he played right midfield today with Skirtel full back & they where just as bad defensively with Carragher most culpable again.

FTR Lorik Cana looked absolute top notch started in centre midfield then finished up @ centre back due to an injury 1 of the buys of the season.

The Man Utd game is typically one that Liverpool would come out and win though, and I predict they at least manage a draw next weekend. Man Utd have hardly looked solid at the back in most of their games this season, so I think Liverpool just might take 3 points from them, and that would change the landscape once again.

If they don't win the title or the CL this season, he'll go. Although Liverpool don't sack managers often.

Huge game next week.

Chalky, Carragher culpable? He saved our asses today. Skrtel was pretty poor but ahead of them it was Lucas and particularly Spearing who gave a lot of dangerous balls away.

Simply put, Sunderland were up for it today and they got a Liverpool side that just wasn't even half-prepared getting to this game. Gerrard, Torres and Mascherano = half the team.

Would be a huge decision to get rid of him especially as they have completely restructed the club to please him. Also didn't he just sign a massive contract last season, read an article in which it was suggested it would cost over £20 million to axe Benitez.

I think it would be a mutual termination thing rather than an outright sacking tbh, I think if he manages to grab 4th spot it would be incredibly unceremonious to boot him out. That said, he has spent a helluva lot of money and not achieved a great deal since doing so...

Although Carragher improved in the 2nd half was awful in the 1st.

No, no and no.

I don't recall him getting beat to any ball or beat by any man or making any mistakes. Where was he awful?

The Liverpool fans demand the title this season, 4th would be a massive failure. Houllier was sacked after finishing 4th in 2004.
