Personally think the whole tiredness thing is horrendously overplayed. If someone asked me to play a match on a Wednesday and another one on a Saturday the idea of tiredness carrying over three days wouldn't even cross my mind. And I'm anything but a professional athlete.

If you play every single Premiership game, which no one actually does, that's a total of 57 hours of football over a period of nine months. Of which the ball is probably only in play about 30 hours. Grow a ****ing set.
The players in the premiership may be accustomed to the rigorous scheduling but that doesn't mean they aren't tired, just like international cricket.

Fact is since WC 2002, some major player in the national side gets a serious injury going into a torunament, while many of our EURO colleagues have avoided that in WC or EURO years.

Some options i can think of to possibly getting a little 2 weeks winter break would be. Either reduce the league to 18 teams & scrap or seriously shorten the carling cup. Since lets face it with CL & Uefa Cup around, the carling cup really is a irritating competition for Big 4 teams especially.

In fairness, most big clubs use carling cup (and even early rounds of the FA cup - Man Utd being the worst offenders) as a chance to rest the players. The real problem in my eyes is the amount of European game there is.

I find the winter break argument interesting, as those for it say it'll rest players, those against say it'll extend the season. The Spanish league has the same amount of league games, and their prime cup isnt much different to the FA cup in games, their season extends past ours, yet it hasnt exactly hampered the national team in the last tournament has it.....

The Carling Cup ought to be scrapped imo, or at least made for lower league teams, that would cut out a load of games for which the top teams are not really interested in, and restore some of the prestige of the FA cup which is nowadays not the prize it once was.

Hmm, we lower-league teams already have the JPT, for just us. Killing the Carling Cup would just cut a revenue stream which is badly needed. Mind you it's only one round of money if you haven't made the second round for Eons.

Well if it's irritating for the big 4 then why bother? and hey, let's not worry about the repercussions on the lower leagues if we cut the Prem either. As long as you're all okay.

Carling Cup's a non-issue IMHO. Pretty much every Prem team uses it as an excuse to give the stiffs/youths a run out. No replays either, so all done & dusted on the day.

Seem to remember Man U having a whinge when the second group stage was cut from the CL. Imagine the others weren't chuffed either, though only the Arse were seasonal regulars at the time. Would be kinda hypocritical of them to drop 4 of their bread and butter games.

In all fairness tho the CL is a much better comp since it went to KO from the last 16. Not sure what relevance that has to reducing the Prem by two teams as such, but I've typed it now.

Nah I think it is relevant, but would reducing the Prem to 18 teams really make that a better competition?

Well I can agree with you there on the proviso that they are just removed full stop rather than just from the Prem

Now apparently Cesc has picked up another knock playing for Spain. Memo to the Del Bosque and Hiddink. They were ****ing injured before the international break, why ****ing play them? Gah, **** off bunch of ****s.

Don't agree, although I think I'm in the minority. Two group stages was unnecessary, but it was awesome to watch.
